Is California Grill OK for kids?

Wow! I think that I will go home and ask my kids if they are ever bothered by rude, condescending adults when they go out to dinner with us. I'll be sure to let everyone know what they say!

. CG has also instituted the new lounge policy to help overcrowding and children are no longer allowed in the immediate bar area.

Anne

Huh? I was just there twice in August and there were children sitting at the bar. Can't imagine what the new lounge policy is because it was way overcrowded and we had late PS. Perhaps CH was lower key when it first opened, but I think its just as loud as a character buffet.

I didn’t realize expecting children not to run around throwing food, not to play tag in the restaurant, not to scream their heads off, not to wack other diners (not accidentally, I mean going out and hitting people) with toys, etc was rude and condescending. My apologies.

OK, harlock_jds, you're right. I do, however, empathize with the folks (because I am one of them!) who want to take their kids to dinner with them at WDW, and who, as a result of these kinds of comments, will not enjoy themselves, even if their kids are being angels. DH and I like to have nice dinners, AND we like to spend time with our kids. It would be nice if we could feel comfortable doing both at the same time.

OP, I hope that you and your kids have a very nice dinner at CG. This is one of the restaurants that I've always wanted to try, but never had a chance to.

We have 1-1/2 year old twins and we've been to WDW two times so far with them. It's a tough age (one and under) as parents never really know when a baby is going to "act up." We had to cut one meal short (our choice, as parents) because our kids made a few noises and seemed to be getting restless, and we were very concerned we might be disruptive. As we packed up and left, we had several people and servers stop us and tell us how well-behaved our babies were, etc. We were stunned, but grateful that those few noises were not disruptive. We do take our children to upscale restaurants, but always with the thought in our heads that if they act up, we will immediately leave. My babies are the best thing that ever happened to me, but I am very low-key and quiet and would probably faint on the spot if my kids acted up in public! (Sometimes it's hard to interpret emails, etc., so I thought I'd add a little personal info about myself!)

So, to the OP, we plan to bring our 18 month old girls to CG in a few months. But we are always prepared to pack up and leave if necessary. Glad you decided to go too -- have fun!

I'm going to PS tom for CG. We are staying at the Contemporary and I would like to have this experience with the hotel. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!!

I hope I am not so on edge about my kids behaving that I can't enjoy myself. Hope I won't be there while some of you are there (you know who you are):).

Well said cstraub!!!

We were there this week 4 adults, one 3 yo. 3 yo doesn't eat much, and although I brought along colouring stuff, her mother told her that it was 'for the plane ride'. There was enough to see outside to keep her busy. We were in a corner table, don't know if that was intentional or not.

All of the servers, hosts, etc that we passed in and out stopped and spoke with her, and seemed really pleased to have a child.

Is she a model child? no, she barely eats dinner, talks over adults, sometimes gets a little noisy, and makes the occaisional foray under the table. Is she a typical 3 yo? Yes.

Did we feel out of place? absolutely not. Although I don't recall seeing OR hearing other kids, we were made to feel extremely welcome, and our little one was treated as other other lady in the room.

And on another note, I removed both 3 yo's from Akershus over the weekend when they got a little noisy and possibly disturbed some people's lunch. I would have done the same at CG had it been necessary, but it certainly wasn't - perhaps just due to that extra attention she was given by the kind servers.
