Is BW too crazy during F&W for a family?

I'm booked for OKW in August for me, DH, DS (7) and DD (5). I may change our location. I love the BW but am worried it's going to be a little too crazy being that it's the food and wine festival. That big slide also worries me, because my kids will never want to get off of it. Any input? I can keep OKW, or change to SSR or WL (Copper Creek).

Thanks in advance!

BW is always busy and loud at night in my opinion but it’s still a great resort. If you’re looking for something more quiet though, then I would keep OKW or switch to CC or SSR like you mentioned.

BW has the same atmosphere during food and wine as the rest of the year. It’s definitely very family friendly.

It has been around 6 years since dh and I went and stayed at BW during F&W so things may have changed there but we found it to be pretty quiet. Definitely would have no problem being there with our kids if we had brought them.

I would have no problem staying there during F&W. I personally stopped taking my kids to Epcot on Friday and Saturday nights during F&W, but outside of that, I think the resorts and the park are good.

BW is fine for families. I've never felt like the atmosphere was too loud even with rooms that face the BW. Our last stay we had a lobby level room that faced the pool and even that was never very loud.

I can't speak to the slide since my kids (and myself) love it too but the boardwalk area is a lot of fun and great for families. The F&W festival won't change the atmosphere on the boardwalk at all. There's a festival going on at Epcot pretty much all year long, it doesn't matter.

Not at all. Food and Wine runs for months on end now, so it doesn't really have any noticeable impact as far as we have ever seen. It's not like a race weekend. I wouldn't worry about that in your case.

BW is a very large hotel. Most of it is nowhere near the Boardwalk, and the rooms that are you pay more for.

I'd absolutely pick Boardwalk. You can get loud guests from F&W in the hall at any hotel. I'd actually say it's less of an issue at BW because of the terrible elevator situation, so anyone without a stroller/ECV uses the staircase near their room and isn't in the hall for long.

I stayed at BW for race weekend, and it was perfectly quiet.

Yeah, Epcot park goers can get obnoxious as we've witnessed some drunk people in lines and just being loud, thankfully no fights or any of the crazy stuff I've seen on the news lately. My kids are teens now and of course they notice that stuff now but when they were little, they were oblivious to it.

Yeah - when we were there in the fall, it was just my husband and I. We went on a Friday night and saw a group of women get removed from the park for being overly drunk, and then a woman in line in front of us leaned over and threw up right there in line. I think the heat combined with the alcohol really sneaks up on people!

But also, regardless of the time of year, there are drinkers out on the boardwalk. Regardless of the time of year, its a popular hotel for wedding parties, some of whom get rowdy. We stayed there for years with our kids and our kids never noticed anything untoward - often during Food and Wine. But isn't taking your kids to New Orleans and staying on Bourbon Street or wandering the Vegas Strip with pre-teens in tow. Its more noticable if you have a Boardwalk View room and are out on your deck after Epcot closes - by which time my kids were always fast asleep.

But you can get wedding parties and guests who drink excessively at any WDW resort. All the resorts have bars - and all the bartenders can tell stories. And the most kid inappropriate thing I've ever seen at WDW was at the MK where some young adults or late teens (it was a Pop Century weekend) were well into "get a room" stage at the Tiki Birds. Bad judgement happens everywhere.
