Is buying into Vero Beach not a good idea?

I hear a lot of people talking bad about Vero Beach. Is it not in a good location? Is the quality of the rooms not great? I've been looking into DVC for a while now, but would really like a beach-side timeshare also. If we were to buy Vero Beach it would be like a small 50 point contract, mainly to enjoy 5 days at the beach. We usually take trips during the summer, so i'm sure the waters are warm. Is the beach nice to just lounge around or take a dip in the water? How far away is it from WDW? If we did join at Vero, would we still get all the perks of a DVC member at Disney World (such as AP Discounts, Hotel cash ressie discounts, Restaurant discounts)? We love Orlando, not just Disney World, so we're always running around. It would be nice to have Vero Beach to end our trip relaxed!

Anyone here own at Vero Beach? Comments?

Does anyone have any pictures of the resort to share? :)

Oh , also, if I do end up buying at WDW resort will it be hard to get a studio available at 7 months at Vero beach most likely around summer?

The Vero Beach Resort is one of the most spectacular DVC Resorts. The architecture, landscaping, and interiors are all breathtaking. The Green Cabin Room is one of my favorite bars anywhere. The cast members are also among the best. The resort is cleaned and maintained to Disney standards (of course).

The things I hear that folks don't like are
- The beach isn't wide enough.
- The surrounding area is too quiet.

While both those statements may be true, we find the beach more than adequate to walk and hunt for shells. We also don't visit Vero for a night on the town, so that is not an issue for us.
We have a car and have found some great restaurants in the area, then we have a night cap in The Green Cabin Room.

In short, we absolutely love the Vero Resort, and we are very happy to have points there.
That said, we own Vero points solely to use at Vero.. Not WDW.

Yes, all DVC perks apply!
You can likely get a room at VB at the 7 month mark for most times of year, as long as you're not looking to book a cottage.

You should visit the resort on a day trip. It's about 2 hours from WDW. :smokin:

I should add that although people do swim in the ocean, there are times when it gets very rough. That section of ocean has also been known for some bad rip tides.

A studio in summer... I don't know since I always book at 11 months.
I will say there are 3 categories for you
- Studio
- Ocean View Inn Room
- Garden View Inn Room

The Garden View Inn Room is a couple points less per night, and all those rooms have the same stuff inside. :smokin:

We truly enjoy Vero Beach resort as well. However, it is not our home resort and we quite often have a problem getting a reservation there for the summer months. I was able to do so this year, but was not able to last.

We like the shore. It stretches on for quite a long way and you can have a very nice walk along the seaside.

We go there for the beach and to loll about doing nothing so it's quietness suits us just fine.

We aren't huge fans of the resort restaurants, but do enjoy the Green Room. We usually have a one bedroom, so do our own cooking.

The old generality of buy where you want to stay can been seen as really appropriate to VB.

I like the Inn rooms. Two queen sized beds instead of the bed and sleeper sofa set up.

We love Disney's VB resort and bought 150 points there after our first visit. I agree that sometimes the ocean is too rough for my swimming enjoyment, but sometimes, it's just perfect!
There's a slideshow of the resort here:

We went to VB for a few days during my March Spring Break and are very sorry that we didn't also plan for a few days there during our upcoming June visit. DH and I were just talking about that, and from now on, all of our June trips WDW will also include some time at VB as well.

We are planning a whole family get together at VB next June! I'm going to be calling to try and get a Beach Cottage for us!

We bought points because we love beach vacations, especially ocean beach vacations.

We plan on going either Spring Break(one reason we bought to get the 11 month window for then) or mid June. We use our SSR points to cover WDW trips.

I now have a real reason to watch the Weather Channel this hurricane season.

I think a lot of people consider buying into Vero Beach for the cost factor. These folks may never intend to stay there but the buy-in cost is very attractive to them. What they don't recognize is that Vero Beach has the highest maintenance cost, so they would be paying more each year for a property they never want to stay at.

If you want to purchase Vero Beach for the 11 month advantage window, then go for it. A friend recently stayed there and she said she would do it again in a heartbeat.

Here's a link to her trip report, with pictures.
Doombuggy goes to Vero Beach 3/17-19

*edit* never mind, I see she beat me to it by a whisker.

We LOVE Vero. We have managed to squeeze in one short vacation there and it rapidly became a favorite. Buying in is a wonderful idea and I would if I had the extra bucks right now.

I've been one to weigh in lately about not buying Vero, BUT, that was for people who are thinking about buying in Vero to get a cheap route to WDW vacations. It is NOT a good idea to buy solely at Vero when you plan on going to WDW. It is too easy to get shut out at 7 months.

For the same reason I would not buy at WDW if you really, really want Vero. Remember, as more and more people join DVC you are competing with all those people at 7 months. It will get harder to get non-home resorts going forward.

Sorry, I was killing time waiting for my boss to get off the phone so we could talk and started posting, then had to run.

1000th happy haunt has made a good point. I purchased at SSR, but when my mom made her annual spring visit to see me (I live in the Orlando area), I thought to use my banked points from last year to spend a couple of nights at Vero. We booked them in Nov and we were put on a wait list for the 1br but it came thru right away (by Thanksgiving). We originally had an ocean view inn room. I would go back again, but I would never go in the summer, as it's just too hot for me. I get migraines if I get overheated, so sitting outside in the dead of summer is not good for me.

It is not a huge resort but it is quite beautiful. Yes, if you want to get somewhere, you have to drive. The resturant we went to was about 10 miles down A1A & was excellent.

yes, the beach is narrow, as I compare it to New Jersey and Virginia Beach. It's been so long since I have been to the beaches on the gulf that I can't remember whether they are narrow or wide. One of the photos in my trip report was taken during the afternoon's low tide. That strip of land that they are on is not very wide anyway, made a mile at most between the ocean and the river.

Maybe you should try staying there during the summer to see how it is, then decide if you want to buy there. Do your homework and have fun!

Thanks. I'll pbbly end up going with SSR. I like that resort a lot, and i'll get extra years :)
