Is burned paper/velum safe for photos?

I burned (with a match) the edges of acid free velum paper. Is it still safe for photos?
The paper looks really cool for my Pirates of the Carribean photos, but I don't want to ruin them over time.
 
I'm not really sure...though it sounds OK. I think I would just make a copy of the photos first, then go ahead and try it.
 
Or spray it with a deacidifier - I believe ash is acidic so burned paper might be too.

ETA or you could mat your photos as a buffer
 
That's a good idea to mat the photos first. I have electronic copies and also they are photos of the ride itself so not quite as important to me as a family photo.
