Is bronchitis contagious

Thanks for the mansplaining.

You are actually wrong, though. In medical terms, acute bronchitis IS considered a secondary infection. Chronic bronchitis is what you are referring to.

Why is it "mansplaining" when someone tries to correct you but, apparently, perfectly fine for you to correct the OP? At least, I assume you think it was fine for you to correct the OP since you did it.

Also, I did a search and cannot find any thing that defines bronchitis as a secondary infection. Yes, usually viral and usually caused by the same viruses as cause the flu or a cold, but nothing saying that it is defined as a secondary infection. Can you please provide some sources?

I'm not mansplaining Karen, I'm clarifying for those who might not know what bronchitis actually is. Don't act like a child. No need to be sexist.

If you would have actually read what I typed i stated that it is USUALLY due to an infection, but not always. The term bronchitis does not refer to an infection though it's often used interchangeably.

I learned this from my wife who NURSEplained it to me (she's an RN currently working in a covid unit, imagine that a man learning from a woman) and I found it interesting. I didn't post it to belittle you whom Id assume now from your childish insult is a woman.

That's all.

It was a joke, dude. Chill. I was playing off your use of the term "actually." And then I used it too, in jest. But the bottom line is that bronchitis is a secondary infection when its caused by a virus or bacteria, characterized by inflamed bronchi.

I was just pointing out to the OP that bronchitis is not itself a pathogen that can be passed to others.

Ahh in that case my bad. I was wondering why I was being called out like that. I forgot actually became an offensive term for some reason.

And if you read the part of the link you posted under the heading etiology it says exactly what I did. While acute bronchitis (yes acute) is USUALLY (crux word of my post) caused by a virus, it can be caused by bacteria and other outside irritants.

And acute bronchitis is NOT an infection. It's caused BY an infection. Another snippet in that same link.

It's about 3 paragraphs down on the link you provided.

When I returned to the gym the owner said a lot of people were out due to it, it is speeding like wild fire yes normally it is after a cold but I swear up and down I did not have symptoms I would never go out in public while sick unless I was going out for medical care

@Wendy1985 I am starting to get mild bronchitis symptoms, started yesterday and haven’t had any cold symptoms since early September. So maybe there is a new “bug” going around. I’ll get tested for COVID today just to rule it out.
