Is booking within a few weeks impossible?

We have had reservations @ VWL for almost 7 mos, with just a few weeks to go 'til our trip "home" in August. My sister (also a DVC member, and long before me, I should add!) calls tonight and says their calendar is suddenly open and she might try to see what she can get during the latter part of our stay down there (our room is a 2 br but already chock full with 4 adults, 4 kids. She will need at least a studio, possibly a 1 br for her fam of 4). I wonder -- is it possible to get a room in a resort with a month's notice? It will be a Friday to Tuesday timeframe for her.

Have any of you done this? I guess I always think in terms of reserving so far in advance -- this is new territory to me. Like me, her use year is June, so she could technically try ANY disney property, although obviously she'd rather use a DVC place.

Opinions welcome (although I guess we'll get the official verdict on Monday!)

It's definitely possible and you never know until you call. Availability changes frequently. The Sunday and Monday nights will probably be harder to get than the Friday and Saturday nights. Hope she has good luck (assuming you want her to have good luck, that is )

Regardless what opinions are voiced here, the real answer can only be provided by DVC member services.

Many have been able to get reservations within a few weeks (and even days) of the dates they were looking for, so anything is possible.

Nothing is impossible
We had VB ressies from jan and 3 days before we left we changed to OKW 1 bdrm, landed a pontoon boat tour to see magic kingdom fireworks, chef mickey dinner ressies and crystal palace dinner ressies. We had the vacation filled with disney magic. GOOD LUCK!

It worked for us this time last year. We were there for July4th week. About a week later we wanted to go back for another week the beginning of August. Called and got it. A few weeks later we were back.

The hardest part was answering all of the "Weren't you just there?"questions from family, freinds, and co-workers.

We booked a BWV preferred studio at 11 months for 2 nights. 2 weeks ago we cancelled those 2 studios and booked 2 BCV studios and also booked 2 OKW studios. These nights are for 2 on 8/8 and 2 on 8/17, so, short reservations were not a problem for us and 2 BWV studios became open last week for someone for 8/16 and 8/17......spruce

If you don't mind, I would be interested in hearing how it turns out for her. My guess is that Fri-Sat will have something available...the other two nights might require a few days on the wait list.

You just never know. At the end of May we were at WDW for a week and decided that we needed just a couple of more days. I checked Wednesday (after 5 PM, so had to go to the front desk) and got a 2 BDRM for Thursday and Friday nights. Talk about a short window. We did have to move to OKW, but it was worth it.

Her chances might be good at OKW for a studio, and if that is the size room she wants, OKW is where I would book it because of the 2 queen-sized beds rather than the sleeper sofa. Just my .02.

I would like to find out how it turns out also because I am going to be in the same situation soon --- I just bought a resale (tired of waiting for NY to become approved to buy BCV) and when I close it will be about 6 weeks before my checkin date for my October trip -- as soon as I am able to I am calling MS to book a studio preferably at OKW and once confirmed I will cancel my cash res at Riverside. I truly hope it works out for all of us!!

A couple of weeks ago several of us donated points toward a trip for a dying young mother, her children and 2 care takers. We were able to get a 2 bedroom Sunday-Friday reservation at just 3 weeks out! BTW, she arrived at OKW last night!

As of Friday afternoon, 7/19 there was a 1br available at WLV for Labor dat weekend - Friday - Monday.

I've had no luck trying for a studio or 1 bedroom for 8/24-8/30. OKW had room available but that is the only one we don't like.
