Is Boma's too wild for picky eaters?

Wow...thanks for all the input guys. My wife said she is willing to try it. I think she is still apprehensive but I figure the chance to walk around the Animal Kingdom Lodge will add to the fun.:goodvibes

My DD is one of the pickiest kids out there! She ate more at Boma than just about any other TS meal on our Aug 2007 trip. Last year we went back and they didn't have chicken nuggets-just chicken wings-no way she was going to eat those. The waitress however got us chicken nuggets.:thumbsup2 We had incredible service that night! My friends each got bottled African beer and she got the labels off the bottles for them-well one was printed onto the glass so she made a copy for them.

I can't wait to go back!

My DH is a picky eater and he just has some beef and things from the kids buffet and he feels like, Scraperbelle's DH, not worth the money for him but I'd go crazy with out something different for a week. So we go there for me but he doesn't leave hungry.

would not recommend Boma to anyone but the most adventurous. DH & I usually enjoy experimenting & branching out, but Boma was way too far out for us:lmao: Just couldn't take dishes like the cinnamon ribs (think red-hots kind of cinnamon) We found the food either totally blah/bland or totally over-spiced. It's not for everyone, for sure.

Is most of the food 'spicy hot'? Does it have labels on what is 'hot' and what is not? (I have no tolerance for anything with 'hot' spices).

The food at Boma is more 'seasoned' than 'spicy'. There may be a few dishes that are 'hot', but most are not.

You'll find plenty to eat there that isn't spicy, and there are always chefs and servers by the buffet to answer questions about the dishes.

We ate breakfast at Boma. It is one of our favorites. We are DVC members and our home is Animal Kingdom Lodge. :cool1:

There are only a few dishes that are what some may term as spicy, although I never found any of the dishes to be spicy...just seasoned as others have said. Most of the food is not ethnic if you ask me. My kids are terribly picky eaters and love this place and they do not stick to the kiddie section, they like real food. The carved meats there are the best. We go to Boma on every trip.

I'm kind of a picky eater and I disliked Boma. But, there was enough "regular" food there for a meal for me. DH and DS loved it, so it was a good choice. I didn't starve by any means and I was happy for the rest of my family to enjoy their dinner.
I think your DW should give it a chance. There will be a few things at least that she'll like and won't take the experience away from everyone else.

I went with a grand gathering group, including 2 kids age 5 and 9 (picky eaters). Everyone in our group loved BOMA, they are asking to go back in Oct. The fruit at this resturant was wonderful, also loved the martini's! Hope this helps.

I'm really considering booking Boma but I want to make sure that there will be something for everyone. All of Boma's positive reviews are really helping out. :thumbsup2 Pretty sure we'll be trying it, but that makes me think of another question: breakfast or dinner? ;)

I have a review with lots of pictures in my dining report (see the link in my signature). Boma seems to instill a lot of anxiety in people who haven't tried it yet. Boma also provokes a lot of discussion from people who loved or hated it. I think it was a great meal, and a great opportunity to try some new things. If you don't like those new things, there are still plenty of normal things to enjoy. Please try the soups!!! And hope that they have cocomisu for dessert that night.

I took a little taste of most of the dishes they offered. I did not have anything that I would consider hot. I considered the food to be seasoned. Lots of cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. They did not have any ribs on the buffet when we ate there. So, maybe those are hot?

I have never tasted anything that I considered spicy. The only things I found to be spicy were some of the mustards and sauces by the carving station that you can put on your meat. That was it.

For what it is worth, we ate there last year. Overall, it was good, but it was the least favorite of our TS meals for an entire week. The food was ok, but to me, it was very crowded and noisy. It is not on our plan for our trip in May.

We just came back last night...It was my favorite meal of the week.

That being said...my kids had pasta....and they are normally eat anything.

So there is something for everyone.

Also....it is a buffet...a man was behind me saying what is this...what is that...he finally found regular foods that he liked!!!

What I do is take a plate and take a very small portion of EVERYTHING!! (except salad...I know what that taste like!:lmao: )

What I like I go back to get more. What I don't like...I didn't waste because I only took one mouthfull of the food.

Also most of the food was sweet...not spicy!!!

Boma is my ultimate fav in the entire world! I LOVE it there. I would not say it's spicy but the seasonings are unusual - and that's what makes it so special. The soups are FABULOUS!! I always try at least 2 of them!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I love that everything is different!

(There is a normal regular kids section too if your kids won't try something new.)

My hubby and 2 girls (ages 8 & 11) ate dinner at Boma last month. In my opinion, this is hands-down the best food I had during our recent Disney vacation. My husband and 11 yr old agreed. Please know the very picky 8 yr old did not go home hungry. She found plenty to eat from the kids bar and dessert bar.

IMHO, there is not a single item on the buffet that you would think is so weird/exotic you would pass over it. This is Disney after all and they are catering to our American tastes. The best way to describe the food is to say that it is what you would eat at your favorite restaurant, only enhanced with wonderful flavors and spices. I really can not say enough about how phenomenal this meal was. My only regret is that I have a small stomach and wished it was bigger because I did not want to stop eating!

***Don't discount the atmosphere of the Lodge, the gift shop and walking around outside to view the animals at night. It makes for a lovely evening. Maybe that'll get 'em!***
:woohoo:
