Is Boma's too wild for picky eaters?

I have ADR's for Boma's dinner on 3/25/09. My wife is worried that the food is too wild for her and my 6 & 8 year old boys. Personally I can't wait but it appears I may get out voted.

Any opinions for others that have eaten at Boma's before.:confused3

There is plenty of plain stuff, including a kids' bufftet with chicken fingers and mac and cheese. There is a carving station with plain beef. There's plenty for picky eaters.

One night there, DD who is not a picky eater, had just had a really long day and was about to have a melt down with the choices on the buffet. A cook took one look at her, told her to stand still for 2 minutes, and turned up with a hot dog and french fries. No idea where they came from, but it made for a lovely evening for the rest of us, bless her heart.

Your family will find plenty to eat.

There is a lot of spicy and unique food. My daughters and I (all who are not adventurous eaters) were not that happy with our choices. I actually ended up eating mostly the kids' foods. My son, who likes a bigger variety, liked some of what he had.

But my husband was really the only one who enjoyed the selections. Of course, the girls were allowed to get shakes for drinks (we were on the DDP) so that made it a bit more bearable.

IMO, it is not a place I would recommend for people who do not have a taste for ethinic foods. While I am sure that your family can find something to eat, there are so many other options around WDW that might be more suitable for everyone.

I don't think so. It's my favorite restaurant and my DH and two kids love it too!!

I was concerned for this on our last trip. We had six adults including two "meat and potatoes" people and one vegetarian. We all very much enjoyed it. I tried many, many new things and liked all of them. Everyone was completely satisfied with the selections and left full. Everyone agreed that they would happily go back again.

it is such a uniqu4e experience - please go for it!!

speaking as a truly picky eater (no veggies) and dd is a picky eater we did it and I'm glad we did!

we started our day by going to Animal Kingdom, then we took the bus from AK to AKL in time to visit the grounds (15 - 20 min) it was really relaxing and nice - then we went down to the restaurant and waited to be seated - we read here on the dis about the special juice and asked for that - no problem -

we can make a meal of just this stuff!!

the hummus was wonderful!

plain meats - and I tried something - it was really really good - a bit of sweet...

and desserts!!
now there were several that said "contain alcohol - ie those zebra domes - but we didnt taste alcohol - so the alcohol could've burned out, but because of legal reasons its listed - but again, no taste of burn of alcohol
!

and dh was the one I wanted to do this for - he so loves soups and their soups were amazing to him!!

My dd 11 is so picky that it drives me crazy! She enjoyed Boma. She ate the fruit (great fruit selection), carved meats, and mac & cheese plus dessert and tried some bread.

We would eat there again, IMO, there is enough there to please anyone.

This is one of my faves but the picky eaters we have taken here have never liked it and mostly ate from the children's pod.

We ate there a few years ago. I loved it. DH and DSs didn't. They didn't leave hungry, though. There was plenty for them to eat. DH said that it wasn't worth the money for them to eat mac n cheese, chicken, and some desserts. Guess I could see his point. We were glad we tried it, though. It's not so bad to spend the money to try it...but I agree that it would be a mistake to return when you know you're only going to eat things you could get at a counter service place.

Funny thing is, we live in Louisiana and they eat lots of "weird" things all the time. They are certainly used to spices. I guess it was just different.

Everyone did agree that the restaurant was very nice and we had one of the best waiters we've ever had at WDW.

I would definitely encourage them to try it "just once" for you. They won't leave hungry even if they don't try everything!

My girls are extremely picky and loved it here. This is one of the places that our dd6 has asked to return to. I'm vegetarian and found heaps to eat here. We will definitely return in September.

I am married to the pickiest DW in all of God's creation, and she did fine, and didn't have to restrict herself to mac and chees, chicken tenders, etc. She left full and satisfied.

As with all things Disney, different strokes for different folks and all that ... but I honestly think your family would be pleasantly surprised. The beauty of a buffet is you can try a little bit of anything, just to see if you like it, and you're not out of pocket anything extra.

We're trying The Wave on our next trip, and DW is a little apprehensive after looking at the menu, but my experience is that the Disney chefs will tweak most any meal to make it palatable to those with the most "discriminating" tastes.

DH and I thought we would like it since we love breakfast and are willing to try just about anything but we did not like it at all....too much cinnamon and vanilla flavoring in the food for us...I do not like my savory foods to taste like dessert

I appreciate you sharing this story. This is why Disney is unique...good old fashioned customer service!

As to the OP, I would never have eaten at Boma if it wasn't a buffet, but with a buffet, you can try food without committing to it. I find that a good way to branch out and try new stuff.

It is so funny, I am a picky eater & most buffets are kinda blah for me (not a big meat eater) but I loved Boma. My kids ate normal kid fare + lots of fruit, I pigged out mainly on the falafel & hummus, hubby enjoyed the meats (but he is not so picky). I tried the chicken and it was pretty normal chicken to me, not unlike a rotisierre chicken from your local grocery...the spiced weren't such that it overpowered it.

Now the african stew from the Mara had some sweet undertones which surprised me (although it was still good).

You'll never know unless you give it a try...

FWIW, my husband is probably one of the pickiest eaters I know and yet Boma is his second favorite restaurant on property and has inspired him to try more cuisines. I think buffets are actually a pretty safe way to experiment. You can take just a little bit of something and, if you don't like it, you can go try something else or get more of what you did like. I have heard that, even compared to other buffets at WDW, there's more foods (and variety of foods) offered.

I am a pretty picky eater... not adventurous at all! So I was a little hesitant about trying Boma...
But I was glad we did try it. It's been a few years since we went, and I don't remember what I had to eat, but I don't remember leaving hungry. :)

Try it!!!

This was our favorite restaurant on our last trip. I am so glad we tried it. And we had the most amazing server! My DH and DS are not adventurous eaters, and both really enjoyed it. They brought chicken nuggets to the table for the kids. Both of my kids devoured the mac-n-cheese. My DH and I really enjoyed the carved meat and the soups. I hope you get to try it on your vacation! :thumbsup2

My hubby and son are both very picky eaters, but we all managed to get full the night we dined at Boma. And it wound up being one of the favorites of the entire trip!
