Is Boma worth it for a non-adventurous eater?

I am a VERY picky eater. DH eats what's in front of him, but prefers the simple life. I really want to visit AKL and this seems like a good reason. We are on DP and if worse come to worse I could eat mac and cheese. Just curious for those who have been if they think it's worth trying?

There are plenty of choices at Boma for less adventurous eaters. Breakfast, in particular seems to be leaning more toward a traditional american breakfast (with obvious african exceptions). At breakfast they'll always have eggs/bacon/sausauge, cereals, ham, pastries. I found dinner to have more exotic choices, but still PLENTY for the less adventurous. I know the menu rotates, but they always seem to have prime rib, either a steak or a pork dish, chicken and a salmon. The prime rib is your basic prime rib. The other items I mentioned would either be glazed, sauced or spiced. The kids section always has mac and cheese, plain pasta with tomato sauce, meatballs and chicken fingers.

Honestly, when we ate there, I was hoping for more authentic dishes & was very disappointed. We do have adventurous palates, & I must have missed all the great authentic dishes. We thought the food was bland. I really think the restaurant suits those who like plain, Americanized foods more than it does those who are adventurous. You should be fine there.

Breakfast is much less adventurous than dinner. With that being said, we took my mom to dinner and she loved it. She really isn't an adventurous eater at all. She shies away from spices and exotic tastes. Yet, if you ask her, Boma was her favorite meal of all on that trip.

If you just want to check out the lodge, why not just go to Mara - the AKLs food court. Its really a very good counter service restaurant, it won't be the time committment that a buffet is (I know other people spend less time buffeting than counter servicing - I always end up with an extra half an hour in my meal). It will be less expensive (or at least the expenses will be controlled as opposed to a blanket per person cost). And Jiko - while a good restaurant - is pretty darn expensive and another huge time committment.

I'm not a Boma fan. We are also adventurous eaters, and I just didn't think the food was great. It was good, but I had expectation inflation.

I'm not an adventurous eater, either! We ate at Boma for dinner in October (mostly, like you, to go see AKL and then have an ADR for a close restaurant). I really enjoyed it! DH tried everything and gave it all rave reviews. . .but even for the non-adventurous sort, I think you would find plenty to eat!

this was our experience ( breakfast)also and wondering if this was breakfast or dinner. I would almost put "Boma " as the most overrated restaurant at wdw due to the scarcity of exotic dishes but was hoping dinner would be better. not that i want fried grubs but to me smoked pork loin is not what i call exotic (hehe)

We went last October with a group of 6. We had all kinds in our group (some adventurous, some not) and everyone loved the meal!

We were there for dinner. IMO, it ties with Ohana for most overrated WDW restaurant. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. I really wish they would open a truly authentic, African restaurant in AK.

We ate dinner there a few nights ago and DH (not picky, but not very advernterious) ate a lot of prime rib, roasted potatoes, salad, bread, corn on the cob, etc. They have great desserts, also!

There sure is enough of a selection no matter the food likes/dislikes. When out, I like to try foods I've never had before. My DH is a very picky eater, my friend, who went to WDW with us is a vegetarian. We all were very pleased with BOMA. I'd say, If you've never tried BOMA, go on ahead and try it. I'd bet that you''d like it. Not many people don't.

I am a very picky, non-adventurous eater. I love Boma! We make it a priority to visit the AKL every visit to eat dinner at Boma. Everything there is so delicious. Soups, meats, sides, and the dessert! I can't wait to go back!

Oh yes - the soups! DH ate two bowls of their gumbo and DS and I each ate a bowl of the potato soup w/ some flatbread - delish!!!!! Also, the zebra stripped kahula mousse thingies are great and the cheesecake. Did not like the chocolate mousse there. One of the chef's brought us a bowl of fried Oreo's that were wonderful! They were fried in a dough and then topped w/ chocolate sauce. YUM!

I am a really picky eater. I love Boma. My husband is the same as yours, he will eat what is in front of him. Nope, not me. I have to ask questions about the food, and how was it cooked and what's in it.....

I found lots of things to eat at Boma. There are lots of meats and side dishes to choose from. They have soup. If you like desserts, youre in luck. They have quite a selection.

We loved Boma so much, we want to make it part of every trip we take.

In our group of 10 (4 adults, 6 kids) All but 2 of us loved Boma. We are not adventurous eaters but really enjoyed the food and especially the fabulous dessert choices that they had. Over rated......maybe if you are talking about the people that report it as the best place ever, but I do think that it is a great place to try. It was really nice to check out the resort while waiting for our ressie. I also really enjoyed our meal at O'hana too.
