read somewhere in a post that the beach closes when the water tests show high levels of ecoli, have a similar problem with some of the highly populated beaches around the deroit area in the summer.

is this a problem with the fw beach? and if anyone hase been there within the last few weeks has the beach been open? kids really looking forward to using the lake in two weeks when we go.

thanks for the input

Was there 2 weeks ago...beach is open but there's no swimming allowed. You are allowed to sunbathe, play in the sand. An employee told us too many birds are using the lake as a toilet and the shallow water near the beach is unhealthy.

There has been no swimming in the WDW lakes for several years now. You will often see people walking along the edge of the water (ankle deep) though. We hit the pools for good, wet fun!

not sure if my ds's (3,5,7) will understand ecoli, but maybe if i tell them there are gators they will be more aprehensive about swimming there?

just kidding, don't want to terrorize them, (well maybe if they mis-behave on the trip down, i may)

any way thats too bad, birds have been around for thousands of years, it's probably a result of poor septic planning. i guess we'll throw back any fish we catch too then. no poo poo plater for me.

Actually, if I remember correctly all fishing is catch & release anyway. I'll have to find where I saw that.

We were at FW this weekend and even though you are not suppose to swim in the lakes their were quit a few people hip deep at the beach. Pesonally we do not get into any of the lakes in Florida, they remind me of Coca Cola water. EW!

All fishing on Disney property is strictly catch and release.

I know a couple of years ago my kids went skiing. Is it still allowed?

The Coca Cola color is from the cypress trees. The trees produce tannin or brown color similar to tea. It's not bad (unless bacteria is present), just colored.

I'm not sure e-coli is actually the real issue... Even birds can't poop that much! I believe that some of the indigenous algae’s and other such aquatic fauna are toxic at the very lowest strata of the "water column," thus making this a safety issue. Any who, no swimmin' in da watta!:hyper:
