Is "Avis Preferred" just as convenient as "Emerald Isle"?

Other than picking your own car on EI, are these two programs pretty similar?

Basically the same thing.

Avis Preferred does not let you pick your car. You go to the Kiosk in the garage, and they hand you the keys to your pre-selected car. If you go to the counter, you do/can get an option of what you want.
