Is anyone taking advantage of the Disney Visa FREE dining offer??

I just got some quotes from CRO and they don't seem too bad. What is everyone thinking Will it be crowded now that this code came out??

Another problem I have - DBF is out of work right now doing his student teaching and he won't be able to work until January. He doesn't think we can 'afford' this vaca but I think we can...should I take advantage of this and take the money out of our savings?? We have never been during the holidays and that is when we would go (12/16 - 12/21)..

Only my true DIS'er friends would understand this dilemma

I hate to be a sour puss, but I don't think its a good idea to take money out of savings to go to Disney.

I also thinks its probably a bad idea to do so after DBF said it wasn't a good idea given your finances. (if you want him to continue to be your DBF! ) He knows a lot more about your financial situation then us crazy Diser's do.

Start a Disney Christmas savings account and aim for Christmas 2009. I know its hard, but its probably for the best....(says the lady with 4 trips currently reserved for the next 9 months )

BTW I too priced the free dining for that same week and came out ahead by booking an AP holders package and paying for dining (Got ASMu for $54 a night)

We are! DH and I had planned to be at the 'world in early October. We've always stayed deluxe and are trying POR this time. Part of it is the economy and part of it is the fact that we just went in January, are taking the kids to DL in Nov for their bday and are booked on the podcasgt cruise. YIKES!

I understand your wanting to see the holiday decorations and it seems a perfect time to go while your BF isn't working. But I would NOT suggest you go unless you have savings of 3x your monthly expenses, after you factgor in your WDW expenses.

Just remember all those people in the US that are in serious financial trouble by spending beyond their means.

We had our trip booked since February, added a code in August, but changed it to the free dining (we were already on the dining plan) and saved $1700 off our original package (2 rooms, 7 people, 8 nights, ASSp during Thanksgiving). I am so excited. My husband is the one who loves the dining plan (not that I don't, but I am cheap, I feel more comfortable eating a few nice things and then kids meals to save money.) Now he gets what he wants (he always was, he works a ton so I can be at home with the kids, so he deserves to have the vacation he wants) and I get to enjoy all these wonderful meals we have planned knowing that we have gotten them for FREE!!!!!!! WIN- WIN (plus wins for the kids and grandparents, they like the meals too!!!!)

Makes you wonder though if Disney is seeing a decline in bookings to offer free dining during the holidays...

I can't use the code because we are DVC members. So even though we are DVC and annual pass members, we can't use the free dining ever. I don't think that's fair.

You are right that isn't fair at all. Disney should really offer the codes to DVC members too. You guys are there most loyal customers!!

Now see, this doesn't bother me. No matter what we pay for food, I feel we always come out way ahead when you look at what we "pay" for our rooms.

We've done three two + week long Christmas/New Year's trips on points and we're treating the whole family to a week in a Grand Villa at OKW next Fourth of July. If we had to pay for any of these accommodations out of pocket, especially when the kids were in college, none of these trips would have happened.

No, we briefly considered but we are hoping to buy a house in the near future if we can find one. We have a decent amount saved for a down payment but are having trouble locating something in the area we want. Hopefully, we will need all disposable income to move, etc.

I think many people are doing less to save more these days.

Is anyone concerned, as I am, that if Disney keeps offering free dining, or extending it this long the quality of the food will continue to decline? Hopefully not, but it is very possible.

One thing I've been wondering about is WDW implementing a separate menu for DDP...the reason why is because during our visit to Le Cellier they had an experimental offering where diners could still get a full meal including an appetizer but had to choose from three or four lower priced entrees (none of them were steaks). No one in our party of eight opted for this "special offering", plus it was during lunch so I have no idea if they were doing the same thing at dinner. As soon as the waiter started explaining the "experiment" I was thinking..."Uh oh -- where's this headed?"

I wonder... Would it be worth while to check into this for our trip? We'll be there the 7th-16th, so it falls during our stay. But we don't have a Dusbey Visa, despite the thousAnds of offers we've received.
