Is anyone familiar with the Desert Palm or the Carousel?

Besides the two hotels BobO mentioned, we are considering these. Is anyone familiar with either of these hotels? Thanks!

I am pretty picky about hotels, so please take any criticisms with that in mind.

I got a really great price, 59 a night, their internet price. It is VERY close to DL. Easy walk unless you are carrying a sleeping 4 year old as I was one night. The lobby makes it look a lot nicer than it is. The room we stayed in second floor a few rooms down from the elevator, was quite nice. I would ask for a room close to the lobby, because the hotel is very very long, and seriously extend your walk in the morning if you get far away. Ther was a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning, and the room for the is very nice with a nice view of the park. the food was less than impressive but I would not expect more for the price. My biggest complaint was I was traveling alone with my son and there are all exerior corridors. The window could EASILY be broken into with a very cheap locking mechanism. I even called maintainance to see if they had a dowel to jam in the window because I am fairly security concious/paranoid.

I think it seemed a bit nicer than the competition right there. We stayed a Desert Inn and Suites once and the room we got was pretty dumpy and miles away from the lobby.

That is my report!

I have stayed at both of them, To me the DI has the edge most of the year because of the indoor pool. During warm weather.....I would make my decision on price. My biggest caution against either would be if you are a very light sleeper, as they can be a little noisy since the street is right outside the door.

Desert Palm has in indoor pool? I thought only Desert Inn had an indoor one.

Carousel is a nice but aging 6-story motel with pleasant, clean rooms and a great location. Noise is an issue there, from 5 and from Harbor Blvd, which is true for all hotels in that block. The pool there is just a hot tub on steroids, on the roof. If you get a good price and want to be very close to the main entrance, it is a fine place to stay. I haven't tried Desert Inn or Desert Palm yet.

Eek! I am a real light sleeper so thanks for the warnings Now I need to find a fairly quiet hotel. Maybe we'd be better off down the road at the Marriott or maybe the Candy Cane...

Teri is right, when we are talking Harbor and people say Desert palm, I just assume they are a little confused......:) If you are a light sleeper, you might be happier in a hotel.:D
