MARRIED TO A PARADE PARTY POOPER? :furious:

My hubby HATES parades. He can't stand them. When we went to Disney in 04, he wasn't interested in waiting around for the parades. I've never seen a Disney parade and I hate to think of missing out on the parades this time. I also want my kids, age 12, 15 &15 to see the majic of a Disney parade.Any suggestions on how to make a parade hater  into a parade pixiedust: lover?

Well, does he hate the fact he has to wait for the parade or the parade itself?

DH and I rarely see a parade in Disney b/c we get so fed up with the crowds that we just end up walking away.

So- this year I am going to TRY and stake out a place and WAIT! well wait for the parade OR wait until someone irriates me b/c they decided to stand in front of me! :rotfl:

If you can get a good spot and be certain to wait right there, maybe that will help. Get some munchies or something to keep occupied while waiting. or just people watch- that would be more tasty than some fries! :lmao:

I'm honestly not big on parades myself, although I know I was when I was younger. I think it's the waiting...not only for the parade to start, but how long it lasts. A lot of the people in the parades are no longer interesting to me either as I get older. I haven't seen an actual WDW parade though since I was at least 10. Also don't care for the people that will step in front of you or having to stand up the entire time.

Sorry, don't like parades myself, so I sympathize with your DH. The only parades I watch are the ones my kids are in. Are your kids very interested in the parade thing, too? If so, I'd say let the DH go off by himself, and YOU and kids watch the parade(and deal with the nasty hordes, as well).

DW and I are the same way. I now think of the parades as a good time to go on some more rides, the lines are shorter along the parade routes.

If they had seats, that you could pay for (buy a ticket) for a specific comfortable seat... i'd pay to see a parade.

Send him off to do something else and enjoy the parades :thumbsup2

Maybe he go on some rides he enjoys or for a cocktail or perhaps to a resort water activity

Cheers

I love parades.
I think it goes back to high school. I played football, and in my sophmore year, got a very bad broken leg. My football days were over. But I had a friend in band (I had all the band-geek conceptions in my head, but I needed something to do) that got me into the band as a Tuba player (actually, I started out a Tuba holder to balance out the formation, but I taught myself the fingerings and eventualy how to read the music.)
One of the first parades I was in was in Lake Charles LA. They used to do a boat parade with boats all decorated with lights in the harbor, and floats and bands along the marina. It was just something magical. I never believed in the term "natural high" before that evening.
Of course, my all time favorite parade was in 1982, when as part of a highschool band development program, my highschool band had the happy honor to march down Main Street, Disneyland, and play a short concert from the ramp of what was then America Sings. The Drum Major directed us from top of the loading elevator of the rockets, before they moved them.
I guess it shows the inner geek in me, but I still get goose bumps while I watch parades

Send him off to do something else and enjoy the parade with your kids. My DH hates all parades -- even homecoming parades with kids we know in the parade. He used to do the WDW parades with me and DD when she was little, mostly because he got a kick out of our reaction to the parade -- not the parade itself. If your DH doesn't enjoy it, why force him to partake?

I am agree 100%- that is DH and I usually do, but this year I want to try and see Spectro and for the MNSSHP I hear the 2nd parade is way less crowded- so HOPEFULLY I will get to see that one!

I would also pay to see a Disney parade, any other parade I can care less about. Heck I live right over the bridge from Philly and I have NEVER even been to a Mummers Day Parade on New Years Day! :confused3

We're not parade people either, though my DD really wants to see them this year. We're compromising on "not the greatest but you don't have to wait for them forever" vantage points so that she can see them, but we don't give up 3 hours for 5 floats that take 20 minutes to pass.

I agree.

Oh my! Shows, fireworks and parades rank high on my list of things to do! I can't imagine not seeing at least one parade during our trip! Thank goodness my DH just follows me through the parks (kinda like the old guy carrying his wife's purse). :teeth:

Seeing a parade once is a thrill at WDW. All the parades in the theme parks are great. Once is enough however. We never watch them anymore, and prefer to be as far away as possible while they are going on. Your best bet is to park the kids and yourself, and send Dad to Space Mt. or some other ride he would like. If you have cell phones, keep in touch that way, and meet him after the parade disperses.

Sorry OT but

OH- thats so sad when I see a guy carrying his wife's purse! :guilty:

I tell my husband- DO NOT TOUCH MY HANDBAG IN PUBLIC!, do not pick it up, do not move it- nothing! I would take the chance that someone might steal it before I ask him to hold it! :rotfl2:

LOL ! I won't let hubby carry my purse.....but.....I do send him out for Tampax. AND HE GOES !!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Tell hubby to go on some rides during the parades - there are usually no lines - !

We know this because except for Spectro - which I have been known to attend twice, three or four times in one trip! - we usually skip them.

The parade is okay. I will not wait taking up curb space among the throngs for an hour and more. Of course, I have a disabled child whose problems just don't allow it...

Sympathies for you, the parade-lover. My best friend is one, too - just to watch her enjoy it was worth a long wait on one trip!!! Try that angle on DH! It's good to see those we care about ENJOY!!!

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to watch at least one parade this time around , with my kids. Hubby can go browse the stores, while we breathe in some pixie dust. pixiedust: I want to see a parade and dammit, I will ! :cool1:
