Is anyone else worried about USAir?

I bought my tix to Orlando last Feb to use this Dec for our trip to the MK...Now with all the talk about USAir I'm worried I'll lose the money I paid for my tickets. Anyone else worried?

Yes. I'm very worried. I started another thread this morning on this same topic. I wish I would have know what was going on with US Airways before I booked our 4 tickets for July 2005. I have a group of 12 traveling the 3rd week of March and we are having a real hard time with airfare out of Philly (even the ACY prices are outragous). By this time, we would have been booked on US Airways.

If you purchased with a CC you should be OK with the not lossing your money part but getting a good deal if things go south is another story...

Keep fingers crossed is the best anybody can hope for right now...

With airlines the way they are.....I wouldn't suggest that anybody book anything prior to 6months out...these airlines keep having air fare wars....you can get some fantastic prices...

Out of Philly....things have been getting pretty cheap depending on the dates....I came with in seconds of booking a trip in Nov for $80 RT......yes I said RT...but alas I came to my senses...:):)

We have reservations on US Air to fly out of Syracuse on September 25th and return from Orlando on October 2nd. I only paid $118 rt per ticket. Now I am holding my breath:-(

I haven't heard bad news....I'm nervous, now, too, what's the problem?

I'm ticked off because I got notified that our flight down was pushed back 8 hours. We won't be getting in now until almost 8 p.m. I have phoned and emailed customer service about getting a refund for the flight down (still using them for the trip back) and had no reply. I can fly down at the same rate with Spirit for a morning flight. Just sent USA3000 another email.

Never used them before, loved the rate, but am hating USA3000 right now.

Crossly,

Kris

USAir is in trouble financially and is looking to file for bankruptcy. From all that I have read there will be a determination Sept. 25 as to what USAir will do. For those of us holding tix for Dec. its a little scary right now...Thank God I paid by credit card.

One thing USA3000 and USAir are not related.

On a normal airline if they change your flight by 8 hours you are entitled to a refund. I would not email. I would call the reservation number and ask what the deal is. Don't bother with Customer Service. At most airlines they are backed up months with complaints LOL! However, if USA3000 tells you they are a charter airline then you are stuck.

Now if USAir goes bankrupt you have a couple of options. If you paid via a credit card (or possibly a TA) you can request a refund. Should they shut down contact your CC company for details (it falls under service not delivered). If your flight is very soon after any shutdown you have the option of flying standby on any scheduled airline. THey can charge you up to $25 for this. (I posted a link with some info last week, but didn't keep the link and don't have time for search right now!)

From reading other posts, the "magic" date for determination on the filing is September 30th or there abouts. But if UsAir does go under, it would not happen immediately, it seems that it would take until March or so of next year.
Hopefully this can get resolved, I like using USair, but since SW came to Phila they have really had to lower their prices. I got round trip airfare with Usair for $116.70, that is with taxes etc, I have never paid that little to fly to Orlando.
I think (and hope) that those of us with flights for the next 6 months should be okay.

Ok, good to know USA3000 is different. I'll be hoping and praying everything goes smoothly for you USAir crowd.

And thanks, Carol, for the advice about calling them; I'm going to do that....I'd really like to recover our lost day.

Kris

What about if you booked a flight with FF miles? That's what DH and I did because we were afraid that if we didn't use them, we'd lose them. We have tix to Orlando for Oct. 27th. Guess if USAir does go under on the 9/28 or 9/30 we'll still have time to rebook.

I finally talked to a person at USA3000 today and she was really nice; they're refunding in full my trip down to Florida and we're just using them to come back with.

I've already re-booked the flight down on the same day with Spirit, arriving 8 hours earlier for the same price!

PHEW!

Just got this e-mail through dividend miles, doesn't sound like they are planning to stop service soon:

>>>>As we work to restructure our company, I want to update you on the progress being made in the implementation of the US Airways Transformation Plan since it means exciting things for our customers and we know that our business depends on the patronage of valued customers like you.

Our Transformation Plan is a broad initiative that positions US Airways as a more competitive airline in our fast-changing business. As a customer, there are many benefits of the plan that you might have already experienced, including the introduction of lower and simplified GoFares, more nonstop flights on popular routes, and more customer-friendly tools on usairways.com and at airport check-in kiosks.

The core of our Transformation Plan focuses on achieving a more competitive cost structure and adapting to the new airline marketplace realities, like simpler fares and more point-to-point service. That also means further improving our productivity and operational efficiencies. As part of this effort, we continue to negotiate with our labor unions to achieve the necessary employee cost reductions that are part of our overall cost reduction effort. While the negotiations are a required part of implementing our plan, they have no direct impact on our ability to professionally serve you, nor do they affect your ability to earn or redeem Dividend Miles to the more than 750 worldwide destinations we offer as a Star Alliance member airline.

As I stated earlier, we are committed to expanding our GoFares to eventually extend them to every US Airways customer who travels our domestic network. We have already started rolling out our unbelievably low GoFares and now offer these fares between 40 cities and Reagan Washington National and between 23 cities and Philadelphia. Nearly 20 percent of our domestic passengers are traveling on GoFares today, and we continue to hear from passengers who want us to bring GoFares to their communities. That is absolutely the plan.

Our Transformation Plan is built on growth at our largest cities: Charlotte, Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., including more service to popular business and leisure destinations. We will also continue growing in Latin America and the Caribbean through our new international gateway at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. By February 2005, US Airways expects to be the low-fare favorite for South Florida, serving 23 destinations nonstop from Fort Lauderdale in Latin America, the Caribbean and throughout the US Airways domestic network. Charlotte's strategic position as the best connecting hub in the Southeast will permit a continuing trend of domestic and international growth. In Pittsburgh, we are reducing our schedule, but will continue to serve approximately 50 cities nonstop, including 28 of our 30 largest destinations.

There will be many other benefits from the future US Airways that you will be hearing about in the coming months. We stand ready to serve you better while we continue to work behind the scenes on moving our airline to a platform of success. We thank you again for being our customer and a valued member of Dividend Miles.

These continue to be challenging times for much of the airline industry, and most of our competitors are going through their own versions of transformation. We plan to get there first and we are absolutely committed to restructuring US Airways into an airline that is built around the needs of our customers. I will continue to update you with additional Transformation Plan milestones as they unfold.

Sincerely,

B. Ben Baldanza

I sure hope they dont go under. The problem is it will be there 2nd time declaring bankruptcy and the US Goverment has already openly let them know they will not be giving them any money period, they told United the same thing. Also an FYI: a poster posted if they liqudate or stop flying they could till march to stop, yes this could be true, but in the past airlines have declared bankruptcy and that same day cancelled all flight and told all employees there jobs were gone.

This happend with Braniff Airlines which was the 5th largest airline in 1980. I am not saying this would happen but it could. I sure hope US Air stays or there will be lots of people without jobs and I would also loose my Frequent Flier Miles!
