They have been terrible the past few days! I keep getting bumped off, I'll be DISing and all of a sudden it's gone from my screen, get an error message, and bumps me off! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I like AOL's features, but if they keep this up...I'M GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't gotten bumped off in years. But, we have DSL and I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I've had AOL almost since the beginning (I remember them bragging about having 600,000 members). We switched to DSL and that helped, but I recently went to a cable modem and as soon as I get my wife up to speed with the new program is goodbye AOL.

We had AOL way back when and didn't have them for very long. Had a couple of bad experiences with their customer service. Have a cable modem now and LOVE it! :teeth:

<font color=navy>I know I'm in the minority, but I really like AOL - don't know why, but I do.

I'm planning on keeping them even when I get my lappy hooked up to our Broadband.

I continued with AOL for a bit of a time after we got cable a few years ago, just so Natalie could maintain her email. I cut them loose though quite a time back. Comcast cable works wonderfully, virtually 100% of the time.

When AOL is good, its good. When its bad, its VERY BAD!

I especially hate when I write a long post, and it knocks me off before I can hit the Post button. Then I have to get back on and start the writing over! I really flip out when that happens!

I just installed 9.0 on my pc and it keeps crashing my pc when i open it up... i have to use the laptop to check my mail..dh says that it may be because the laptop is xp and the desktop is ME...i don't know what the prob is but it's sooooooooo annoying...

There was a similar issue on this board just the other day, but with Earthlink.

As it turned out, the person having the problem hadn't gone to the Microsoft site and downloaded the latest critical updates.

So it could very well be your operating system or modem driver that's causing the problem, and not AOL.

If you're running XP, and haven't downloaded any updates in the past month or two, you're already overdue and will likely encounter problems, especially when connected to the internet.

Let us know how it goes.

I fired AOL months ago and went with cable modem. Much better. Even with a brand new Dell with Windows XP, I couldn't get on and when I did get on, I was knocked off all the time or it was just so durned slow that it took forever to do anything. Good riddance.

I've been having problems with AOL for over a month certain sites are very slow. One of them is the DIs board which I can't stand because It take forever to look at one post. I want to switch but DH doesn't. He doesn't go on the DIs board so it doesn't bother him. It's taken me over 10 minutes just to type this little info. :(

DSL, cable, modem. Yikes! Things have changed. AOL occasionally sends me something saying a new updated version is available. I'm still working through 7.0. I don't want 9.0 because I keep hearing about problems with it! And Dizzie...your comment of 9.0 making your computer crash is scary!!!!!!! There's definitely no way I'll download it now. I also have a pop-up stopper. They're trying to get me to download an update, and I keep putting it off. The last time I did that, some sort of firewall went up, and I couldn't use MSN Messenger...aaauuugghh! That's a life line for me to those not on AOL!!!! I'm not sure how, but within a day I could use it. So now I don't want to download anything. I automatically get Microsoft updates and do download them.

I have never had AOL. We have Mediacom Cable modem, but lately I have had emails sent to AOL addresses returned as undeliverable because they were too busy.

AIM has been having problems too but I always associate my internet problems with our school's network which has been horrible lately!

I have had AOL forever. When cable modem became available in our area we jumped on that, but kept our AOL account as well. I just couldn't give up my email address. I like AOL for the most part, but it is a pain in the neck at other times. To be honest I have been having more problems lately using Internet Explorer than AOL!

Edit to add:

I have also not upgraded to 9.0 yet (although they keep pestering me to do so). I am still using 8.0. I like to wait a few months after an upgrade comes out because they tend to have tons of problems in the beginning.

AOL stinks, they have pissed DH and I off several times over the past couple of months. We just ordered DSL through AT&T last week and as soon as our DSL kit arrives, AOL can puckerup: us goodbye!!!

I don't use IE much. I don't care for it. Does 8.0 work okay for you? Another thing I'm not happy with is that one of my friends said that when she updated to 9.0, everything in her filing cabinet was lost! I remember that when I changed from 6.0 to 7.0, everything came over. I would still be on 6.0 if it didn't! There's no way I'll download 9.0. Dizzie's story is enough for me. Add in losing what's in the filing cabinet. Plus a classmate of mine said she had problems with her printer after downloading 9.0.

8.0 is oookkkk....nothing great. I was a little taken aback by the new background screens (I am sure they have a different name than that) for 8.0 when I first downloaded it, but have gotten used to it, and kinda enjoy them now. I generally use AOL for email purposes. I use IE for most everything else, b/c having cable modem it is always online, and no waiting for aol to load and check my password. Those precious 5-6 seconds can really make a difference ;)

I like AOL, but don't use it much since I have DSL. I mainly keep it so that we I travel I can have easy access without additional charges.

When we were at WDW, I paid 75 cents a call to check email. Did not need 4.99/hr for high speed connection.

We have aol and cable modem but for the last month cannot access the internet thru aol, we have been on the phone to aol and they said it's not our computer its aol but nobody knows why we can't access the internet thru aol . And now when i go thru outlook express to check that email and have to click on a link in my email it takes me to aol so I can't access tht either.
