i am so unhappy with my life I cringe when I go to a store and see all the hype on Christmas, decorations, music and the guy with the bell looking for money. I can't even give change. To boot I canceled my trip I was going to charge to go to Disney, that is what Christmas was all about for me this yr and I am not going because guilt came into it, my dad is going to be 86 in January BUT if he is around for another 10 yrs am I not going to do anything, ARGH, life can't get any worse for me. :(

Sorry you're feeling that way, Gail. DS and I were at WDW a couple years ago at Christmas time and fell in love with it. I wanted to go every year from then on. Hasn't happened since I'm a poor student. LOL! That trip was in my working days. But you should be glad you have your dad at 86!! It's unlikely he'll be here another 10 years, so enjoy him NOW! My grandmother died a few weeks ago at 92...she would have been 93 on December 23. So try to think of it positively. Disney will still be there at another time.

Abe Lincoln once said:

"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

I've spent a few very lonely Christmases, and this one isn't looking any better. However, THIS year, I refuse to let my situation/circumstances dictate my attitude. I'm going to decorate more probably than I ever have, buy myself (and a few close friends/family members) a few thoughtful gifts, bake like I'm going to have a party....and if I'm the only one here to celebrate it, that's ok.

Christmas isn't for me - it's a celebration of the birth of Christ. And I don't have to have a bunch of happy people around me to remind me of that.

When I find myself getting down, and singing the "Poor-Li'l-Me" song...I just remember what Abe said, and change my mind!
(of course, sometimes it's easier than others...)

Wow, I can get on a tangent, can't I? I just see/hear/read about someone who is unhappy and not doing anything about it, and want to reach out! Life is way too short for anything less.

Gail, all I can offer you is a great big HUG. Hang in there, girl!

:hug:

Gail, you have been depressed for a long time. You may have some good moments in time, but it seems to always go back there.
Sweety, you need a doctor and a counselor. Believe me, I know, I've been there, and I'm not out of it yet.
No one here, no matter who, no matter how easy they are to talk to, no matter how it seems to help make things look and feel better, can do what it seems that you need.
I'd hate for things to get worse for you, and it can, you need professional, personal, face to face, help.
{{{hugs}}}

Serena mentioned that you have been depressed for a while. Depression is not different than having another illness. Go see a Dr or counselor, it may take time, but it will make a difference.

Suggestion for the holidays - volunteer somewhere, homeless shelter, childrens hospital, toy distribution center.

There are a lot of ways to help besides giving change.
