I'm a planner. ... We tried this for this summer and for two properties in the Lake George are (one concierge collection and the other RCI) I was told no availability until September! I gave them the whole summer to find something and nothing!
Anyone else???
Two thoughts:
Recent incentives offered by
DVC have included developer points to be used at WDW this year. As we get closer to summer (and kids' big school break), it's likely to get booked solidly.
Also, there's a common misconception that being a "planner" with regular vacations (through CRO or a
travel agent) is the same as being a "planner" when it comes to timeshares. It's really not. Planning to trade through RCI for popular school break summer stays usually requires advance planning well over a year ahead. Calling in winter/spring of 2009 for an RCI summer 2009 week will rarely be successful, especially for a place like Lake George, with such limited availability anyway. There won't be anything just sitting around in inventory, waiting for someone to call and request it. As these prime deposits are made, people with ongoing computer searches get confirmed.
II gets good inventory about 5-12 months out. RCI gets good inventory, usually 12-18 months out and you'd want your ongoing search in, ahead of it, to snag the good stuff as it's deposited. Further, most successful traders request a whole list of possible resorts, not just one.
So while I completely understand your frustration, you may find more success if you try planning
much further ahead with timesharing. The "early bird" idea, extended. It's
great that you can be so flexible with the "whole summer" and that may make the difference, still. Did you place an ongoing "search first" request for the Lake George resort? Never know when a longshot cancellation could come through.

May be worth a try, with a backup plan (something you could cancel) in place for your summer vacation.
