Hmm ... I wouldn't exactly say that all models are forecasting a strike on NO. There are a number of models showing a projected path towards FL. However, at this point, it is really anybody's guess!

Here's a good link for monitoring this particular storm:

Last year we were scheduled to leave for Disney on Friday, 9/2/05, and here came Hurricane Katrina!!! We live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Kiln, MS which is on the Louisiana line about 15 miles from the Bay St. Louis Beach! How do you say "Direct Hit" !!!:sad2: We stayed for the Hurricane (Big Mistake) and we evacuated as soon as the roads were passable and we were able to find gas. So last year's trip was great but stressful knowing the mess we were coming back to.
So this year we are scheduled to leave on Saturday, 9/2, and here comes Hurricane Ernesto!!! I never want to wish a Hurricane on anybody else, but the people here on the Gulf Coast really don't need another one. People are still in temporary housing and repairing houses from last year.
Hopefully Ernesto will just fizzle out!!!! We are still heading to Disney but I am hopeful it will be under better circumstances this year!

I'm with you on the "fizzle out", it does seem like you shouldn't pick 9/02 to start your vacation though.

Well for all of us here in North Texas who haven't seen rain since the first of July, we say "Bring it on" to Ernesto. We are in a severe drought and have cracks in our yards that go all the way to China. I mean the dogs are afraid of walking in the back yard for fearing of falling in and never being found again!!!!! :wave2:
Tiggerluver12, I am  to you....We could really use some substantial rain here! Here if Frisco TX, they are saying that there is a 40% chance of some rain tonight...We will see...

The reason they are saying it will hit NO is because it makes a good news story. The truth is that they can't predict a path with a whole lot of accuracy until it gets a few days out. They still don't know what steering conditions will be in place when it hits the gulf.

I live in South East LA and we are watching the storm closely, as we do all tropical distubances. No one here is freaking out, now once it gets into the gulf, we'll have a better idea of where it will go.

My advice enjoy your trip.

We went to Disney one year even though they projected that Ivan was going to schmook the MK. We went anyway, everybody thought we were nuts. At the last minute it veered off course and hit the gulf coast and missed Disney completely. It didn't even rain. So we just enjoyed our vacation in a practically empty park because so many people cancelled. It was great!

Its path is looking quite a bit different today. Everyone going on vacation soon should keep a watchful eye on this storm.

I think we are all watching it closely right now, at least those of us due to fly into Florida this week. We are going prepared for a rainy week, and know that we are always taking a chance going this time of year (that is why free dining is offered of course). Everyone stay safe and stay tuned to that weather down there, as it is changing so quickly.

As someone said, no need to worry over things you cannot control.... :surfweb:

The 7:00 am advisory has it hooking to the east headed for the FL west coast. But Becca's right, until they actually get into the gulf there is really no way to be sure.

A year ago I went to bed hoping those poor people in Florida wouldn't have too much damage from Katrina and woke up the next morning to discover it was headed straight for US!

But, WDW knows what they're doing. Go and have a wonderful time! :)

Current projected path has it going over Cuba, being downgraded to a 1, then entering the Gulf and skirting the entire west coast of FL as a 3 or more before coming ashore somewhere near the elbow area (sorry not sure what cities are up that way). As it passes over FL it should downgrade to a 1 before popping into the Atlantic as a 1. From there who knows.

Id be watching it in Orlando since it will be on the east side of the storm (the worst spot). Also keep in mind that most of the west coast will hopefully evacuate and many head to Orlando. Keep you tanks full of gas and you might want to pick up some water and food just to be safe. Of course all this can change in a few hours too.

I posted this on another Ernesto thread. Maybe these 2 threads need to be combined by a mod?

I was watching our local news and on Fox the weatherman said it really shifted to the right, and the center reformed, and the upper level shearing is gone. He said it could be anywhere from very bad to not so bad for us. Here is the latest track. Looks like the track is getting very close to Tampa Bay. http://www.wftv.com/hurricanes/9733331/detail.html

Keep in mind that 5 days down the road is still a way off and it could shift again. The trough off of Colorado is what is pushing it to the direction it's going now. There is a possibility that once it gets through Cuba it could come off as a tropical depression, which would again, change things drastically.

but you PRAY that this would never happen to you!!

Yes, I am flying in on Thursday.... right when the Projected Path of Ernesto will hit Central Florida!!!!!!!

Ok, majorly freaking out - worried about being stuck in the Airport in Providence ... missing my flights...
Scared to death the flights actually go, and I am flying into Orlando DURING the Hurricane....

Planning a Four Night/THree Day trip - and having it falling apart.....

****SIGH****
****DEEP BREATH******

It's gonna be a long 4 days waiting.....

For those of you heading to Disney this week a little piece of news. If the hurricane does come in and head over Orlando Disney will be prepared. I live in the Tampa area so am watching it closely just for my home's sake. But last year we were at Disney when one of the hurricanes came across. Most of the resorts, especially the places like AKL and WL, knowing people were cooped up at the happiest place on earth, ran activities in the lobby for their guests, especially the little ones to help alleviate some of the stress and boredom.

Scratch this off of your list of things to worry about. They will not fly you in during a storm. They'll shut down the airport...

Try not to worry yet...like you said, it will be a long four days, but I bet you end up with a great vacation! :sunny:

We live in the middle of the projected path (as of now that is). We also are to check in to POP on Friday. My plan?? If this projected path stays how it is, call Disney to see if we can check in earlier. I am thinking of Disney as my evacuation plan.

I will bring the following:
1. Water
2. Food (Remember if you are at the values or a mod you have to go outside to get to the lobby area and it can be quite a hike.)
3. Rain Ponchos
4. Most important, A GREAT ATTITUDE!!

Everyone please remember that CM's are all local. So if Disney is getting hit so are their homes and families. If they are at work, they are not at home and have no idea what is going on at home. I have lived on the gulf coast of Florida for 4 years (We got hit three times 2 years ago) and hurricanes are VERY stressful. You live on pins and needles for days before the storm actually hits.

Bottom line: Bring your Pixie Dust with you. The CMs may need some. :wizard:

I'm freaking.

My DM(77), DS10, and DS5 and I are flying in Wednesday morning and driving to POR. My husband is to come in Friday morning.

Leaving on Sat.

Waiting, waiting, anticipating......... :rolleyes1  :bitelip: popcorn:: :surfweb:
