Is anyone else besides me disappointed that the Little Mermaid "Ride That Almost Was" that was shown on the second disc of the DVD set wasn't made into a real ride? They had the plans, the model, and the other stuff to make it and they didn't! Hopefully with the rerelease of the movie they'll reconsider in the future but ever since I saw it, I've been a little angry. I mean, they give us rides like SGE which is crap in my opinion but they decide not to make this one?

Me! It looked very neat--especially the exterior. I watched all of the segments about the ride on the DVD hoping for a hint that it would be built.

In the Unofficial Guide one of the Jim Hill blurbs says to not get too attached to the Pooh Playground because Ariel's grotto is likely to be made into a full blown attraction & overtake that space. I think that would be very cool!

No I wouldn't be upset, I do agree though, that Stitch is a mockery of the one time absolutely terrifying but spectacular Alien Encounter. (Bring Back Alien Encounter!)

There are many rides that make it to concept but never get any further. This is true at every park, from Six Flags to Disney. The great thing about it, is that a good idea never dies. The ideas that were formulated for that ride were probably used and put in place for something else.

What I do get irritated about is when they cut budgets and you end up with AN a attraction but an inferior version of it. From what I've heard the current Mission Space was only the pre-show to another attraction, and what ever happened to Beastly Kingdom, or dare I say Chester and Hester's *cringe* ARGG!!! YELLOW SMILING DINOSAURS!!!

What I'm trying to say is that its ok to nix blue skys, as long as Disney stops building smog.

I hope Jim Hill is correct! I'd LOVE to see it be made into a real ride. I'd probably ride on it 100 times, lol. And with the recent release of the movie, I'm sure others would agree. It looks to good to not be made into a real ride.

...okay, that just totally blows my mind. I can't imagine how much cooler what would FOLLOW that ride would be!

Oh... I TOTALLY agree with you! I used to LOVE alien encounter! The 1st time I went on it I was SO FREAKED OUT! The Stitch version just doesn't have the same impact.

Oh well... back to the original topic - yes - we need more PRINCESS rides! And something that's interesting for the grown-up princesses

I also watched it and I don't understand why it never became a real ride. It looks great. I would definetely ride it. They should have given it a chance. Maybe they will one day.

I agree with you. Disney's been riding on this whole princess thing for years now so I think it would be an excellent idea to have more princess rides. I'm sure a lot of people would love that. I know I would, lol!

I saw that, and loved the whole concept. Maybe that will take over Pooh's Playground / Ariel's Grotto. Or, (and I may need a flame suit for this,) they could make it where the Snow White ride currently is, I've just never been overly impressed with that, and I think the Ariel one would be better. Though Snow White "deserves" an attraction since that was the first movie.

And, this is kind of OT, Disneyland has more rides like that, they have Pooh, Snow White, and Peter Pan, as well as Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, as well as still having Mr. Toad's Wild ride, so WDW could use another one.

I believe that the Little Mermaid ride was originally planned for Disneyland Pairs. Initially the park was a financial disaster as attendance was lower than projections. The Little Mermaid attraction was eventually scraped because of attendance problems. There was also a Beauty and the Beast dark ride planned for Disneyland Paris but it was never added because of financial problems.
