Is anyone else a little irritated that Park Hopper is needed to see all the HP stuff

I think most folks will simply bite the bullet and buy the two day park-to-park tickets. It's aprox. 175 per adult, instead of 135 per adult (if you pre-purchase online). And to put things into perspective, two days at Disney World will cost you 188 dollars, with no hopping.

The park-to-park option basically costs about 20 dollars extra a day. That won't be the deciding factor for most folks.

Math - 175 - 135 = 40 dollars per day per person.

I honestly couldn't imagine being at Universal Orlando and not having access to both parks whenever I felt like it. Like a PP said it's not like WDW the other park is steps away. We're talking about a few bucks here, I don't even understand having a conversation about this.

Well feel free not to participate but this is a discussion forum so that is what we are doing discussing... I'd love for $40 per person to seem like a few bucks but we are careful with our spending.

I don't know if anyone would be so obsessed with a single IP at WDW that all they wanted to experience was all things Beauty and the Beast and be done. There are other things to enjoy at the parks, as there are at US/IOA

The day that WDW adds an attraction that in order to experience it you need a park hopper then it is the same thing until then this is a very different animal. And nope I'm not such a Disney fan that I doubt for one second that they'd do this if it would bring in money ;)

Right now we'll probably pass on the ride and do 2 one day tickets so that we can do rope drop at both parks unless we go at a really off season time if there is such a thing anymore...

Well just FYI if you go to Undercover Tourist and by your tickets there you can save a bit of money on park to park access two day tickets.

The two day base ticket with no park to park access is $144.83 from the Universal website (with tax and print at home option)

You can buy a 2 day park to park access ticket from UT for $177.98 (tax and shipping included)

Difference in cost is only $33.15.

Personally I love the freedom of park to park access so I wouldn't ever not by a ticket that allows that privilege.

No need to be snarky.

We come from western Canada to Orlando every December for a couple weeks. Our trips cost in the $10,000-$12,000 range. So yeah, we don't have any discussions about spending an extra $40 on something that is a no brainier.

What some just don't get, that's the way it is. If you don't like it then just adjust your vacation to suit your needs. This world is full of decisions and that's up to the individual consumer. Let's face it, we are the consumer and need to make a choice wether this is right for you. Everything we buy you need to make that choice.

I feel this way, there are many people in the world that will never experience what most of us complain about. Accept what is there or don't do it at all. We try to do everything for our children, family, friends, and homies. But at the end if the day my family appreciates everything we can do while we can do it.

I don't want this to upset anyone but stop and think of how fortunate we really are. :-)

It's still 20 dollars, since that was a two day park-to-park ticket compared to two single day tickets. Whether that's a "few bucks" or not is entirely up to you. But it's still cheaper than a two day single park ticket for WDW.

Your math is wrong. But for me, the value of being able to freely move between parks and see the entire Wizarding World (and the evening fireworks show and other things) is worth 20 dollars per day, per person. We can skip the buffet, bring porridge and eat our breakfast in our rooms, and we'll have saved that money before we even get to the parks.

Your mileage may vary.

Honestly, if I have to worry about $20 on vacation I can't afford to be on that vacation.

Universal spent how many millions upgrading their product and now they want another $20 to see it?!?! The audacity!!! Shame on them!!! :lmao:

It's like going on vacation to Europe but only have enough money for the flight. You need to adjust accordingly even if you think it's unfair. Life is full of disappointments, sorry to inform some people.

To be fair, it's only $20/person/day if you spread the cost over two days. It's not like you can get one day of park hopping for $20. It will cost $200 for my family of five. I do think carefully about spending $200, even on vacation and even thought I can technically afford it.

That said, I think the three or four day park hopper tickets are a great value. Even the two-day hopper ticket is not a bad price, comparable to all the other expensive Orlando theme park tickets. I agree with another post that it might have been better for Universal from a public relations standpoint to stop selling multi-day non-hopper tickets, at least online. People would be paying the same price, but without feeling they are paying $40 just to ride Hogwarts Express. Or being surprised at the park and resentful because they didn't understand their multi-day tickets wouldn't get them onto the HE.

It seems that the biggest issue for many is the transition USF is going through. For example, many casual guests, especially those who do a week+ at WDW, are used to USF being one day side trip where they might just go to IOA to catch WWoHP as a supplement to their Disney vacation and get their "Potter fix".

DA changes the whole equation. USF is now firmly in the "you need a minimum x number of days to do everything" for many more folks than before. Now it's a bigger decision on the type of tickets and how to segment their vacation time and vacation dollars between WDW, USF, and the rest of Orlando.

From a business perspective - brilliant move by Uni having HE as a catalyst for PP and longer stays. But, and this is huge, Uni is also holding up their end of the bargain by providing an incredibly high quality product in DA (incl. HE) for the additional time and expense.

Seems like a good trade-off to me.....

I completely agree, I can easily afford the 200$ difference in price, bc like a pp stated if I couldn't I wouldn't be going. Park Hopping is just usually not our vacation style, we like to enjoy the resorts and have nice sit down meals and not be constantly on the go. We weren't planning on park to park tickets, but will to experience it all. So for us the price increase is for specifically ride one ride. Now though maybe we will try wet and wild one afternoon since we originally weren't planning to. I haven't been to US in ALOT of years prior to IOA, and everyone keeps saying how easy it is going back and forth so I am sure I will be happy to have the option now.

Our vacation style is basically the same, but we like to leave feeling like we enjoyed everything a few times over. At UO we stay onsite for 6-10 days. We like to wander back and forth from enjoying the resort, the parks, and Citywalk multiple times in one day. Like you we don't spend 12 hours in the park in one day, but we might go to IOA for 3 hours in the morning and then go to UF for 2 hours at night. We don't really plan it out, we just do what we feel like.

I guess we don't view UO as a quick one or two day stop. We view it as a vacation destination. Not quite to the extent of WDW, but I wouldn't feel like I enjoyed it if we didnt spend at least 4 days there.

Yeah, what you said is a good summation of the dilemma for most WDW vacationers. WDW tickets for days 7, 8, 9 & 10 are only $11 more per day and WDW vacationers have always chosen to stay put. Now, there is a serious decision to make about whether to give WDW $22 for 2 more days or go to Universal for 8 times that amount. The WDW vacationers always conveniently forget that the first 2 days of their tickets cost more than the 2 days at UOR parks cost. But "hey, it's Disney and Disney is better right?" Not such an easy to answer question anymore.

It doesn't irritate me so to speak, but I do feel they did it specifically with monetary gain in mind. I worked there in WWoHP when it first opened and the talk then was to tear down all of the surrounding area where there is basically nothing but a crappy restaurant and carnival games and convert it to more HP. But doing it in US generates more profit b/c you have to park hop to see it in one day and/or ride the train. And as a rabid HP fandom member I would pay double what they charge anyway. And they know that. Lol.

But I never parkhop at Disney. I like to spend a full day in each park. I have parkhopped at universal several times though because you can see both parks in one day and do almost every attraction. Universal is a place I go to ride rides and just rush through (other than HP of course) but Disney is an experience for me. :)

They did take down the carnival games and fill that area with trees to make it look like part of the Forbidden Forest.

It would be awfully weird to have Diagon Alley right beside Hogsmeade but the forbidden forest and the station fit quite well.

that is the same way i do the darkside.
i stay 6 days at the motherland and on the go all the time.
then i move over to the darkside and make it a relaxing vacation.
the next trip i have booked will be 12 days onsite.
i totally relax and destress from everyday life when i am there.
