Is anyone cruising with me on the August 27th 2011 Meditteranean Cruise? Hellooooo?

Ephrussi Gardens looks beautiful! It says you also get a free tour guide!

You are lucky to be so familiar with the train system. I know we would be too afraid to venture out past Villifranche on our own.

Hat question.... I know only Americans wear baseball type hats. What European hat would be suitable for the heat? Straw? Somehow I think not..:)

In Villefranche we plan to take the train to Monaco in the morning and tour the palace and see the church Princess Grace was married in. It is an easy walk to the train station from port (we took the train to Nice last time).

We will probably head back to the ship for a late lunch and then either stay onbaord if it is hot, or head to Ephrusi de Rothschild. I think it looks lovely (we enjoy some of the nicer palace gardens here), but I have yet to figure out how to get there (other than taxi--it looks pretty close so it probably would not cost much). Had anyone ever been?

Hi, plenty of people in Europe wear baseball caps, this isn't a problem I would not worry about having to find an alternative. My DH will be in his constantly when he is out in the sun, and has recently bought a Barcelona F.C one especially for the cruise.

I feel the same as you, do not trust myself to go on public transport.

I am thinking about booking Palo for the first night of the cruise ( embarkation?). We will miss meeting our table mates and servers. Anything else missed by missing that first dinner?

How much is Palo now? I am reading conflicting prices. I read it went up to $20/pp but European cruises are still $15/pp? Anyone know?

I realized this did not come through when I was quoting early and then I forgot to answer it.

I have no idea about the pricing in teh Med being different than the higher prices coming up now elsewhere-sorry.

As for which night, my opinion (which is just that--MINE:rotfl2:) is that the first night would be a great time to dine in Palo. You will not have to worry about missing a major show (there are 3 really big ones) or pirate night (the first night has a welcome abroad variety show which is nice, but not nearly as big of a deal as some others) or about hurrying back from port so as not to miss your dinner--and you will not be worn out from long days in port yet. Depending on what time you are able to book, you may even still be able to stop by your regular table for a few minutes before you head to Palo just to introduce yourselves.

For anyone that "burns" easily I suggest putting on tan accelerator two weeks before you go, it gives you skin a base, and tricks it into thinking it has been in the sun before you go.

Also if you get very sore as well as aloe vera, one thing we use when get caught is natural yoghurt, it takes the sting out and somehow helps alot ... our cypriot friend told us this years ago when we got caught out, but forgot to say natural, I used strawberry the first time :rolleyes1

A base tan will NOT help keep you from burning or prevent sun damage. The only things that will keep you from burning are to cover up and use sunblock with an SPF of at LEAST 15 and reapply many time throughout the day. Put sun block on about 15 minutes before you go out in the sun and reapply every 2-3 hours. One thing I always forget is to wear a hat. I always bring one on vacation with me then leave it in my hotel room and end up with a sunburn on the top of my head in my part. :headache: Also if you plan on wearing flip flops or sandals put sunblock on the tops of your feet! I forgot this one year as well. Putting on regular shoes was not pleasant!

I know I am probably the only one left in the world who doesn't do facebook. If you can post a pic that would be great. I'm now on a mission to find a cute sun hat for this trip!!:goodvibes

I am a silver member, so hopefully there will still be Palo slots open for that first night. I can't wait to see some 7 night Med Navigators to get an idea of when these shows will be.

Sorry maybe I wrote it incorrectly .................... no way did I mean not to do any of the above, just saying that I use it on DH before we go and it helps, along with his very high factor sun lotion and hat etc.......... some people have said it helps with prickly heat if you use before you go as well.

I have never used face book so I can join your club ;)

Looking forward to 7 night navigators as well.

I totally agree but I find that doing the tan accelerator before does help, and then as normal I ensure he is well covered with sun tan lotion, hat etc. Do not want you to think meant do not use sun tan etc.

I always use a tan accelerator to start the season. By the time August rolls around we will have enough of a tan base. Still will bring sunscreen for sure!
