Is anyone cruising with me on the August 27th 2011 Meditteranean Cruise? Hellooooo?

Thanks all for your replies ........................... will there be air conditioning on board???

Hi Tiffany--I saw your photo on your Mom's facebook page--you are a very sweet looking young lady:goodvibes You might want to post over on the kids' meet page and hope you meet some friends. There is one 7 year old who posted over there already--a boy but he sounds very nice. Hopefully as we get closer to the sailing more and more kids will be there and you can get to know some friends before you leave home.

thanks, can you give me the kids link????Tiff

*************** POLL ******************** (rather keep to this thread as only about our cruise).

DH cannot make up his mind whether to wear a tux on the formal night/semi formal. If he was to wear it I think we would have to hire it as our luggage allowance is not great, but to hire it does cost alot.

I said I would ask all of you what the men are wearing :-

- Tux
- Suit and tie
- Smart trousers, shirt and tie

Any help would be appreciated.

My husband just wears a dress coat and tie, but I think for this trip I might back the jacket with flying it isn't worth it for one night. He will still wear the tie.

************** SECOND POLL ******************

Pirate Night ...................... how many of you are dressing up?

If you are, are you going the whole dress up or just maybe a pirate t shirt and hat etc.

Again any thoughts appreciated.

Sorry to be so demanding with my questions :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

We are not dressing up for Pirate night.

We are in the same boat (excuse the pun). I think Jason looks GREAT in his tux but he is miserable when he wears it. I broached the question and he said there was no way he waas lugging the jacket around thw world to wear in the Med summer heat and he would just wear the pants and a dress shirt. No tie. Topic closed for him. What do people do about children - I have no idea want to put the boys in.

We WILL be pulling something together for Pirate night although not too elaborate as we have to pack light.

We had people who wore shorts and t-shirts to dinner every night on our panama canal cruise they didn't even bring polo shirts or slacks. They weren't denied dining either...I was surprised.

Ok so based on someone on Disboards suggestion about using Limo in Rome (Thank you!)

I have been considering these two tours because they are cheaper than Rudy's Car tours. Please let me know if you would like to go in on booking these together. DH and I would really like to find some people to travel with. =D

The first price listed in Euros is for 4 people the Second price is for 6 people and the third price listed is for 8 people.

Tour 1Rome 460 500 540

Tour 2From Naples (Dock) to Naples, Pompei and Amalfi Coast ( hours) 460 500 540

The other options of Rudy's Car tours still exist they are for 8 people and cost approx 600 Euros each if we book all three with them they will give a discount of 100 euros off the total price and they are available for all three cities in Italy.

Yes there is air-conditioning on the boat. In fact, I thought it was rather cold! Be sure to bring a sweatshirt to wear if you go to any shows or sit out on deck 4.

eeyorefanuk, Here is another response to your survey questions.

My DH will bring a navy blazer and a tie to add to his uniform of business shirt and khaki trousers. On pirate night we do not wear costumes, but then we travel with only a carry-on bag each.

Oh yes, there is definitely air-conditioning. It can become quite chilly. I bring a pashmina shawl even on the summer Magic cruises.

Hope this helps.

DH will be wearing a suit for formal night and semi formal night. (different shirt and tie ;)) Most men wear a suit, a few tuxes and a few don't dress up at all. Personally I think that they should at least have a jacket for formal night, however if your husband does not it's not going to ruin my cruise.

For pirate night, we will just wear the bandanas. It is just too much luggage for us to bring. In the past we have dressed up but having to pay for luggage we are not going to bother this time.

On another note, what an amazing group we have here!!:cool1: Normally whether or not to dress up with a jacket for men on formal night brings out a lot of hostility. It is wonderful to see everyone being so civil.:thumbsup2

DH will be wearing a tux. I bought a jacket for him off ebay for $20. All I need is to buy a pair of pants and a shirt. I bought a pattern from Hobby Lobby for the bow tie and the cumperbun (spelling?) Hobby Lobby is having a sale on McCalls patterns for $1.99 ea, limit of 10. DS will be wearing a a tux as well, and I plan to buy that one off ebay as well.

For Pirate night, I also bought a family pirate costume pattern set. I *plan* to make costumes for us, but I don't know if I will get around to it, maybe just make them for the kids first and run out of gas and won't make them for me and DH. We'll see.

The good thing about flying US Airways is that when you fly to Europe, your first checked bag is free, and then you also get a carryon, so that is a total of 8 luggages that we can take w/o any additional fees:thumbsup2 (I mean, we pay enough as it is:rolleyes:)

I got a chance to look at the website from an outsider point of view and omg, i need to makes some tweaks! I didn't notice that the pics overlap the text when i'm in the editing part, so if you all see something - just let me know, I don't mind. I won't get mad ;)

Thanks all for your replies ........................... will there be air conditioning on board???

As others have said YES--and I am nearly always cold at dinner and the show. They can really over air condition those two venues. The Buena Vista Theatre (movies) is even worse--you frequently see people bringing their blankets from stateroom beds to huddle under while watching movies:rotfl2:

thanks, can you give me the kids link????Tiff
Sure:goodvibes, here it is:

I very much agree with both of the bolded sections.:thumbsup2

A couple of quotes did not come through for me:confused3 sooooo, I am glad limoinrome was helpful to someone. They did a nice job, van was claen and newer, picked us up promptly, great email communication ahead of time, etc. To be honest our driver was fine and nice but nothing spectacular about his personality (some people on the baords rave about their wonderful drivers who become friendsfor life). We didn't dislike him--we just didn't fall in love either:rolleyes:
A suggestion to anyone doing private tours who really wants to see a lot: You are generally given a choice of whether you want to have a nice sit down lunch or grab something quick out. We opted for quick (pizza from a deli the driver knew was good and gelato--plus we had two other gelatos that day; it was hot:scared:). Lunch was cheap and took about a half hour and we managed to see everything we wanted (a LOT) without rushing and still make it back to the ship in time for the show and dinner. Groups who took the longer lunches whom we spoke with all regretted it and had to either really rush the afternoon activities or cut things out--and still hit the highways late enough to have traffic and get back to the ship after the show (first seating of dinner) and with no time to shower and change for dinner. So my advice, unless you REALLY want to have fine dining in Rome, take your day to see the city and skip that fancy meal.

Where do I find details about the tours as above? :goodvibes

Hi, my DH will be wearing a dinner suit (tux) simply because he already owns it and its not very often there is a chance for using it, but only on formal night. For those in the UK marks & spencers do very nice ones in the larger stores that cost about £60, compared to the hire price this is very good value. Also if you buy one it gives you an excuse to book another cruise.:thumbsup2

As for pirate night we didn't bother on our last cruise, my daughter did when she was 10 but now at 12 says she will not do it this time. Our last cruise, western caribbean, a few adults did dress up but it didn't seem to be many.

If we can get 6 or 8 people DF and I would be in for Rome. Maybe the other ports too. Let me know what kind of plans you are looking at, here or in a PM. I'm guessing everyone will want to see the same things for the most part but best to make sure there are no big conflicts of interests. I thought it would be fun to do Rome on our own, but then I realized this may be the only time I ever get there so I wanna do it right and see as much as I can.

Yes - about $4600 for the flight change costs and 750 Euros for a non cencellable hotel. Everything else was able to be changed at no cost.

disney rang and spoke to DH while i was at work today, they are paying for our flight different but DH was told will take 6/8 weeks :scared1: not happy with that, of course DH said nothing :rolleyes1 ................... i wonder if he misheard

Ok so Disboards is not liking my long PM with details about the shore excursions for the three locations.

I did a comparison of the disney tour offerings and these other companies. I can e-mail you the word document for you to print if it makes it easier. Just send me a private message with your e-mail address.

The details for the rome tour and naples tour are available on http://www.limoinrome.com/services.php?service=excursions#nogo

Ideally I would like to get as many people as possible up to 8 because it lowers everyone's cost SUPER cheap. Even going with a group of 4 people lowers all the prices lower than what Disney would charge and we would get to see more so obviously the more people the lower the price which equals happy travellers =).

For Florence and Pisa with lunch at a Tuscan winery the website is http://www.rome-car-tours.com/tour-from-port-of-florence.html and the rate is 550 euros up to 7 people. Each person wuold be responsible to pay for their lunch and any other applicable admission fees.

Sorry to be so demanding with my questions :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

My family relishes the chance to dress up and always does so on formal night. My father and little brother both wear tuxes and my mother and I both wear the formal equivalent in dresses. My brother's bow-tie and vest are the same color as my dress. My father's bow-tie and vest are both mickey mouse:rotfl:.My brother would be furious if he had to wear anything but. His tux is and has been ever since I can remember his favorite outfit. Funny little boy:rolleyes:. Most men wear suits or dress shirts with slacks. Most women wear nice but not overly formal dresses often with a shawl. Most boys wear a dress shirt or a polo shirt. Most girls wear again a nice, however, not overly formal dress. Several little girls wear princess outfits.

On semi-formal night my father and brother both wear suits and my mother and I wear the formal equivalent in dresses (somebody ought to create a name for that). The majority of people dress like, although, more people for go dressing up altogether.

On pirate night my family has always dressed up. My mother sewed my whole family some awesome pirate costumes way back when and has sewn more whenever we outgrew them. Unfortunately my mother's outfit was accidentally left in the USA when we moved and I have once again outgrown mine. So I am hoping to sew some more before the trip. However, if not I am sure that we will improvise something. About half of the people usually wear something piratey if just a t-shirt, hat, or eye-patch. Several children and a few adults wear pirate costumes. However, costumes are not nearly as common as nice clothes on formal nights and it is not at all out of place to dress normally.

We are probably going to do Rome alone, via train etc,but anyone who would like to join us welcome! We will do this way probably as feel going by train is ideal with young child as no set times or destinations,so knowing this heat and the effect it can have on all,we prefer to plod along at own pace and relax/stop if necessary for refreshments! Rome, we are only interested in the following Vatican/Fountain and River boat cruise which we have found are easily accessible, very cheap and convenient by local transport.Other option looking into is local company services half day only!
Barcelona we have already planned for Zoo and the mountain amusement park!

Of course, being from Greece, you will likely be used to the heat--but I thought i would throw this out there for everyone to think about anyway:

A BIG reason why we loved doing a private excursion in Rome was that we got to go from place to place in a nice air conditioned van--rather than walking around in the heat (we are total wimps about the heat:rolleyes:). The longest stretch of being out in the elements we had were half hour stretches at lunch and the coliseum. Being a wimp about heat I absolutely could not have handled Rome any other way:rolleyes1

For what it is worth (while I am babbling on about Rome anyway:upsidedow) we opted to pay for a private guide at the Vatican (which the tour company arranged for us). I think it was 180 Euro more for the group. It was worth every cent. The place is huge and CROWDED and we would not have known how to navigate it an see the highlights in 2 hours otherwise--and she told us such wonderful information and stories about everything we saw--absolutely the highlight of the trip:thumbsup2

NHdisneylover- what company did you use for the vatican tour? We don't want to do a Rome tour but I would be interested in the vatican tour.:thumbsup2
