if so......were any of the airlines understanding and did they go out of
their way to reschedule or refund your money?
thanks

We haven't actually cancelled yet . . .DH and DD and DS still want to go, but lucky me I get to make the final decision. I have spoken with Delta Express with whom I purchased my December 01 and July 02 tix from . . .Delta Express will not refund, they would just cancel my ressie and offer me to reschedule in a year's time, BUT, if I did that, I would have to PAY THEM $100 per ticket for a transfer of flights . . .I spoke to Discover Platinum Card, that's how I paid for December and July's tickets and according to them, all I would have to do is talk to a dispute manager in claims and I should receive a credit for those tickets since Discover has automatic flight insurance and they have been very understanding with people not wanting to fly. I have 11 weeks to go . . .its a very hard, personal decision for me. I hate flying to begin with . . .I don't think I can get back on a plane, sad isn't it? Personally, I don't know what to do . . .one day I'm saying let's go, the next, no way. I think I still have a wait and see attitude . . .If there are no more attacks on the U.S. between now and then, I will probably go . . .

I think all airlines have been different in this crisis . . .I guess it all depends on which airline you have tickets for . . .

Good Luck

We have tickets for America West and they are pulling the
same stuff...$100 to change our $136 tickets...I talked with 3 people...no ifs, ands, or
buts......
that irks me.
So are you going to challenge the charges with Discover...will you tell them the reason why?

I am going to give American Express a call....:)

thanks

My DH and I had this very discussion last night! We have tickets on Delta for July 02, and they are non-refundable. My DH is very adament about not flying, and doesn't want to drive the 1100 miles. I don't want to be charged $100 to change the tickets to the following year, if I can even do that. (Purchased tickets 8/31) Nor do I want to loose the money I spent for them.

I did purchase them on my CC, so maybe I'll try to dispute the charges. Afterall, I'm sure we are not the only ones unsure of flying!

I'm more upset of the thought of not getting to WDW next summer!:( My DH said to think of other places that we could drive to for vacation. It just won't be the same. The really odd thing is that this summer when we were leaving the YC, both DH and I had the same strange feeling that for some reason we would not be returning the following year.

I am really hoping that I have my complete confidence back
by next year. I was already a chicken about flying and worrying about crashing...
I don't need to worry about other things right now.....but we are flying next month....
if we were flying next year......I would just keep the tickets and decide next year...
a lot could happen up till then........POSITIVE THINKING HERE ;)

I worded that wrong.......we are supposed to fly next
month to LA from Phx.......we are driving instead....

if it makes anyone feel better......we did just fly home from WDW on Sept 16th and it
was ok.

Not that this helps, but, Delta express only charges 50.00 per ticket to reschedule.

My flights are on regular Delta not Express, and unfortunately they charge $100 a ticket to change.

DisneyKim,

Right now I'm holding onto the tickets and hoping we too get our confidence back, and that my DH changes his mind. I have to get over the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.

yes, regular Delta does charge 100.00, but, I was responding to Wish Upon A Star.
Maybe you will get lucky and they will cancel the flights you were supposed to be on.
Or..........better yet, your confidence will return, which is what I hope happens. :)

to be honest with you if you are traveling past the 2 week time frame they allotttd no they won't let you refund . they have lost too much. now if you want to change dates I would push the issue with them and go to the head of the company if necessary. They have lost so much money that its financially stringing them to the bone. I have friends with 15 yrs seniority and they are being laid off. its a dog eat dog world and the carriers are wearing milkbone underwear. how do you now how you will feel next july? or april or even jan? thing swill have died down by thena nd its possible that you may still want to fly. personally I had no problem walking on that aircraft last week...one foot in front of the other. in fact we both slept the entire way down and back. and to tell the truth if things work out I will be flying down again next month and possibly december and again in jan and then april.

Does anyone know the policy regarding US Air. We purchased tickets in
June for flight on 11/7 (I really don't want to reschedule because then I
would lose the great rate of $99/nt at Dolphin...) HELP!!!

Bev,
I did the same as you last week, one foot in front of the other, had a Bloody Mary from BWI to MCO and slept like a baby afterward. Had two on the way back and did the same sleep thing.
:)
I am sorry we missed each other, btw. :(

I would go to the USAIR site and see. BUT.....I believe you have passed the time frame for a refund or no charge change. The airlines were more than generous, but, like so many others, the feelings are we need to get on with life.
Let's hope you change your mind and decide to fly and have fun.

GO! There is no reason to be afraid to fly at this point. The planes are safer than ever! not only that, but cancelling your trip would only be admitting defeat to a bunch of ignorant terrorists. (Not what I really wanted to call them!)

Face it, you are in more danger of being hit by a bus than being in an air accident. Personally I'm itching to get back on a plane, and God help ANYONE who messes with my trip.

We're going November 29 thru December 9 and we have never discussed cancelling.

The thought has never entered our heads. I refuse to change my life and live in fear because of what happened.

I also feel terribly for the airline industry and hope things get back to normal.

I feel the airports and planes are safer than ever so it's the best time to travel. I also believe that the evil terrorists wouldn't do the same thing twice.

I have to go through Logan, too!

I can completely understand all those who canceled the week or the following week after the horrible attack. I probably would have done the same and I would have rescheduled.

To each his own but I feel life is short; make the most of it and live it to the fullest without fear. :D

Anyone who is going to dispute the charges please keep us informed, I am curious to see how that goes. I personally don't think there is a legal leg to stand on in that situation. To the best of my knowledge unless either the charges weren't approved by you or the product received wasn't what you were expecting the charges will stand. Just curious?

We were suppose to fly to Orlando on United on Oct. 12th with my parents are our two children (4 & 5). We have decided to drive. I think for those of you who keep suggesting for everyone to fly need to take some other things into consideration as we have. Our reasons are United has cut personnel and flights. They don't have to tell us in advance that our flights have been cancelled. At this point, I don't think it's a matter of if but when we go to war. If something was to happen while we're away for 11 days I want to be able to get home without having to worry about the FAA grounding the airlines, not being able to take our rental car out of the state, more cancelled flights etc.... I would rather be in control. The thought of being stuck at an airport with 2 little ones isn't a pleasant one. In addition, my 5 year old dd is very afraid of flying right now. I don't want her first experience on an airplane to be a bad one.

Back to the original question: Our tickets are not refundable. We can be issued a credit for future flights less a $100.00 penalty fee. We already paid $1000.00 for our tickets. So, $400.00 is already gone and the remaining $600 will be credited. I've been trying to get through to United the past 4 days and can't. They won't even put you in cue. It's just a message to try again later.

On another note, please don't tell people how to feel. I have read on several threads of posters telling others posters "Don't be afraid, Don't be scared" etc.... We all are entitled
to our feelings. Everyone's situation is different and we all need to do what's best for our families.

I completely agree with you SNCBIRD, no one should tell someone else not to be afraid. Everyone is different, and have different ways of dealing with things. I personally have flown since the WTC attacks, and didn't have any anxiety about it.

Personally, I haven't seen anyone "tell" anyone how to feel. But I have seen people give their opinion on the situation and what they are doing or will do. I've also seen lots of advice, too, which is fine with me.

All I did in this post and another post which were about cancelling or not was give an answer to the question at hand and also give my opinion.

I personally wasn't addressing anyone in particular. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings, and telling them not to be afraid isn't going to suddenly give them an epithany that he(she) shouldn't feel that way, that was all I meant in my post. I think telling someone not to be afraid is trivializing that persons feelings and shouldn't be done.
