Is Aladdin something I can miss?

This is definitely a personal opinion question. We only have 2 1/2 days in the park as we already told Grandma we would be to her house early afternoon on Thursday. They just put up the June 22nd schedule, and Aladdin's on for the day. Now I need to decide if I want to try to work in the 1240 showing or skip it altogether.

DD2 saw Lion King and Nemo at AK last year and loved them (but we also positioned ourselves where she could walk up and down in front of us during the shows). She also loved F! (the late show, AND after being awoken about 30 minutes early by some rude person who stepped IN her stroller). We didn't do Beauty and the Beast, and we're figuring Aladdin is closer in line to that than LK and Nemo.

Is this a show that a 2 year old would enjoy for 40 minutes? She rarely even sits still for a 20-minute MMC.

I really don't think you should miss it AT ALL. If you catch a seat at the bottom you will practically be IN the show. ;) Don't miss it.

I'm not sure a 2 year old would be interested. There are probably parts of it that would catch her attention. I don't know if you would be allowed to let her walk around because during the show there are parts where they come down the aisles and do things. It probably depends on the individual child and you know her best. Also, if you are spending all your time trying to make her sit still and be quiet, how much of the show will you really see?

It's a great show but if I had a 2 year old that I knew couldn't sit still I would skip it. I wouldn't be able to enjoy the show myself if I was dealing with a wiggly kid and I wouldn't want to disturb the other people around me.

Aladdin is a larger scale full stage production so I'd put it closer to Nemo than Beauty and the Beast. I'd rank it much higher than any stage show at WDW although they're all good. That said I'm not sure a 2yr old would be able to follow the story or get any of the jokes but may enjoy the multitude of characters themselves. It is an excellent show that you yourself would probably love.

Maybe the 2 year old would nap during the show if she was bored.

SUCH a great show, I would hate to miss it. I will be at DL next week (!!) and I look forward to Aladdin.

I would be so lucky! Last year she slept through Hall of Presidents at WDW and then slept a little longer, but now she refuses to sleep in our arms. I'm thinking we're just going to go ahead and skip it. We haven't seen it before, so we really won't know what we are missing. If it's still around in 10 years, we'll see it then with a child who will appreciate it.

Thank you all for your reviews!

If she liked FOTLK and Nemo then Aladdin should be a hit. It is easily better than either of those two shows and much better than Beast.

It should not be missed; it is a broadway spectacular - the effects, the professionalism of the performers, and the ambience all combine to make one fantastic experience.

I would take a row at the very back, in case little one can't sit still so well, as it would be easier to handle the wiggly one.

I think the wiggly little one will be mesmerized, and won't be as wiggly as you think. I think though, you should look it up on youtube and make sure your little one won't be afraid of the huge snake that arises from the 'ground.' Huge as in, gigantic.

As far as I'm concerned, Aladdin is the best show Disney has in either DL or WDW. It blows Beauty and the Beast and Nemo out of the water. For my family is a do not miss, no matter how short our trip is.

We took our DD last year shortly after her 2nd birthday and she enjoyed it; but she did get antsy at times. Luckily, we had 5 adults with us so she was able to jump from lap to lap. She was also into the movie at the time, so I'm not sure if that helped keep her attention. It's a good show and I'd recommend it. It's always a hard call when it comes to energetic toddlers! ;)

I'm still paying off DH for making him sit through it once and that was 2004!

We cheerfully skip this. It's pretty much the worst thing we've ever seen at Disney.

Your comment is so far from the norm I am compelled to ask what kind of things you do like at Disney parks? Have you seen FOTLK or Nemo or Beauty and the Beast at WDW?

Back to the OP again, the only Disney park stage show show I have seen better than Aladdin was Tarzan at DL Paris. Alas they have discontinued that show. :sad1:

I saw Lion King on Broadway last year and would take Aladdin even over that. It is that good. ::yes::

It is a show that should not be missed if you have the opportunity.

Okay...now definitely reconsidering. I saw Lion King in London back in 2000 and LOVED it (I bought the last ticket for a standingspot; I bawled like a baby...that's how amazing it was). We're taking DD to see it next summer (2012) at our local theater for the Broadway series.

We'll see how she's doing at that time of day, but hopefully we'll be able to work it in. The 12:40 is our best time to fit it in.

We don't do Florida, so no comparisons there. What do we like? Uh... we ride rides, see shows, watch parades? Love Fantasmic and are eagerly looking forward to WOC. Thoroughly enjoy the Muppets and won't miss it. Take a pass on TTBAB because the spiders freak my kid, but recognize that it's a nice little show. We like a wide variety of things at Disney- heck we like *most* of what we see at Disney. Just not this one production.

We saw Lion King in San Francisco and that's part of why we think Aladdin is so very bad. LK was excellent and beautiful and the acting was superb. Our "Aladdin the Musical Blanktacular" experience included a cut down, second rate version of a show filled with poor performers including a Jasmine who could barely carry a tune and a blue man who I would have suspected of being the Genie except that he was never once funny. The tumbler who played the carpet was cute. And we liked the global buildings moving in during WNW. Those highlights were NOT worth sitting through the whole thing for, IMO.

We'd love to see that gorgeous theatre running something else.

You've made reference to this before, that it is a horrible show, that you make your DH sandwiches to 'pay off' your debt to him for having attended a 45 minute production.

So... when is your debt to him going to be over? 7 years is a long time to have to make sandwiches for your DH for seeing a 45 min. production. ;)

You are the first person I have ever heard of who hasn't liked the production, and I guess your DH would be the second one. ;) To each his own, I guess. :) I respect that others have different opinions, but admit this one baffles me.

This is directed to the OP now...We felt badly when we couldn't see Aladdin the last time we were there, (closed). Each time can be slightly different with jokes, etc. Genie steals the show, and he acts like he hasn't done the show a million times - it doesn't look like he's tired or bored, or just running through it... it looks like he loves getting the crowd involved, and laughing. To me, it's a fresh performance every time. The powerful performances of the rest of the cast is awesome. Jasmine and Aladdin always sound so great when they sing together. Lights, special effects, just wow.

Edited to add: On another note, I am wondering why they don't mention the real names of the performers - admittedly, there are some 'genies' that we enjoy more than others, same as for Aladdin and Jasmine. Does anyone have a good web link of cast members who perform in the production?

Ah, I see. You failed to comprehend "joke between married people." Did you *seriously* envision me slaving for seven years over an unending string of sandwiches? I apologize if the humor was too subtle. Obviously that's not an accurate view of my life. On the rare occasions he asks me to make him a sandwich (a thing I'd do anyway) he sometimes jokingly invokes the "Aladdin Clause."

As for us being "the only people" you've ever heard of not liking this thing, do you somehow feel that invalidates our opinions? Or that I am hereby no longer allowed to offer my view when someone asks for input?

I have a DH who refuses to watch musicals..absolutely hates them. Anything with actors bursting into song (theater, television, movies, etc). Fortunately, as a fairly local AP holder, I went one day by myself, LOVED IT and dragged my husband back the very next day. Not only did he like it, he's looking forward to going back! This is pretty much a miracle in my book.

I didn't understand that the sandwich debt that you posted about on this forum was a joke between married people, but I do now. Thanks for the clarification. :)

My comments certainly do not invalidate your opinions, you have a right to your opinions, as well as a right to post your view points on this forum so that the OP could hear about it from all angles.

I'm really sorry if you feel like I was trying to invalidate your opinion... I had said,
"You are the first person I have ever heard of who hasn't liked the production, and I guess your DH would be the second one. ;) To each his own, I guess. :) I respect that others have different opinions, but admit this one baffles me."

So, I really do respect everyone's opinions on these boards, this is what makes the DISboards so great! :)
