we're trying to decide whether to go to the AKL (which we love) and use the extra points for the concierge service or try the AKV.
any suggestions would be a huge help.
thanks, akv members since september.

concierge is worth it if you will use the concierge lounge and/or plan to do the sunrise safari.

if you want a concierge room at AKV, you had better call at 9am EST when your 11 month window opens...

(if you are talking about jambo house vs. kidani, i'd lean toward jambo house but it probably doesn't matter...)

Welcome to the board...I see it's your first post!!

It's worth it if you enjoy daily mousekeeping, nightly turndown service, the lounge, and extremely over the top service all of the time!

I also would like to extend a warm welcome to the Boards, akl1234.

We booked a 1-bedroom AKL concierge-level this January for several reasons. Primarily because the last time (which was our first time staying at AKL) we stayed at AKL, we stayed concierge level and enjoyed it immensely. The last time we were there, AKV was just a rumor so it will be interesting for us to see how much the resort has changed now that AKL Jambo House is part DVC.

We are also staying concierge level because we have a large amount of points that cannot be banked and thus must be used. We also do not wish to be on the DDP, so concierge food will be a huge plus for us on this trip. Other perks are the special safaris open only to concierge guests. The safaris have changed since we were there last, so please check allears.net or another resource for more info. Perhaps a fellow DIS-er can provide you with more accurate information. We have participated in the sunrise safari during our stay at AKL and found it to be an absolute must.

I should note that I have heard from ppl who have stayed AKL DVC concierge that the views are not as good as the lower floors. Several of the villas overlook the pool.

We think its worth it for the few extra points we used on a studio last January! So much so, that we booked again for this coming January. We're not huge eaters, not picky either - so the food offerings were more than enough for us for our days spent there so we didn't eat but one sit down meal out. We thoroughly enjoyed the nightcaps...and daily housekeeping.

We will be staying concierge for our first time in about 20 days
We have the sunrise safari booked for 16th. I just read a review where it mentioned not getting done until 9:30-----is this correct? If so, it kinda puts a damper in our plans since we're still commando-rope drop type people.
Does it really take that long?

OP, sorry to skeeze in on your thread with a question of my own. :flower3:

Hey! We also have the Sunrise Safari booked for 8/16! I think the 9:30am completion time must include the time it takes for the breakfast buffet (?). Just my guess as it's our first concierge stay/SS as well.

We enjoy staying AKV concierge, but if Savannah view is a must for you, then you may not want to chance it. There are not many Concierge Savannah views, so if that's important to you, please take that into consideration.

We did the Sunrise Safari last year and you will be eating breakfast and already be in the park when its time for rope-drop. Enjoy it. The Sunrise Safari (and the breakfast) is a great experience. You will love it.

Yes, you will still be eating breakfast when the park opens. What some people have done is to send a runner to get their EE FPs during breakfast. Also, they no longer give you Safari FPs as part of the sunrise safari.

Now, I just loved the sunrise safari and am still trying to figure out when I can book CL again.

I'll second this thought. I had one of the SV CL rooms during my stay last year and while I loved CL and can't wait to stay there again, the SV isn't very good. That is why I haven't booked CL for one of my trips last year when I took my sister and her kids. i.e. I wanted them to experience the SV rooms.

To the OP:
I absolutely loved staying CL, but I agree with the other posters. If you aren't going to take advantage of the CL Lounge and sunrise safari, then I would probably just book a SV room.
