Is Akershus dinner a family style or menu?

It's been many years since I've eaten in Epcot's Norway -- aside from a blood orange custard I get every year from the Kringla Bakeri. My last experience at Akershus was before the princesses, when lunch and dinner were served as a buffet. I must admit I wasn't entirely thrilled at the selection, which is why we haven't returned in so long.

We're going to give it another try on our next trip.

Can someone help me understand how service works at this restaurant? The WDW web site indicates it's family-style service. However, the number of items on the menu makes me think it doesn't work in the same way other family-styles I'm used to work, such as Liberty Tree Tavern, Garden Grill, Hoop-Dee-Doo, and the Luau. At those, they bring a selection of everything to the table, and refill as many times as you like.

How does Akershus work? Is it only the "Taste of Norway" appetizer that's served family-style, then you order an entree off the menu? That sounds more like a prix fixe menu than a family-style. Can you try multiple entrees?

I am pretty dinner is the same as lunch (with additional menu items). It is a cold buffet--salads, cheeses, meats, etc. and then you order your entree off a menu.

Well as previous poster said you get a salad bar buffet which does include some meats and cheeses you don't typically find at the grocery store. Great for those who like to try new things, plus they have the old stand bys for those who are a little picky.

You do get to order your main entree from a menu and the selection of items is good. I ordered the meat and potatoes dish (don't remember the name) and it was delicious. Everyone in my party agreed they had a very good meal here (there were six of us).

Desert is served a little differently, however. You get dessert, but you don't get to choose, as they give you a dessert platter. There's a little chocolate mousse, and a couple of other samplers. It was all very good. I recommend it.

Appetizer buffet: salads, cold meats, cheeses, fruits, traditional Norwegian food.

Entree off a menu: mostly Norwegian-ish food. We absolutely loved the mustard-glazed salmon.

Family style dessert: several desserts brought to the table on a platter for everyone to share. They've been switching these around lately, but it is usually 1 chocolate thing (cake or mousse), 1 non-chocolate thing (school bread or apple tart or a berry thing), and one pudding type thing (rice pudding or mint cream).

We just went this past Wed for dinner. Once seated, you order your entree from the menu. My mom and husband got the kjottkake and my dad and I got the salmon. Both were excellent. Then you go to the appetizer buffet while your food is being cooked. There they have cheeses, bread, salad and meat. To me that was a full meal in itself. After your entree they bring out family style deserts.

That menu is from October, actually.

The most current menu is probably the one on the Disney site for the entrees, and you can look at dining reports (including mine) to see the offerings on the buffet and the desserts, but it seems like lately it's never the same 3 desserts twice.

I just ate there on Wed night and the menu was the same as the link. Same entrees, same desserts - hadn't changed.
