IS afternoon still best at AK??

On our last trip (99) we were told to go to AK in the afternoon, and we did and it was great! There were hordes of people filing out, and almost no one going in at around 3:00. We walked right on the safari and Kali River, both days. Is this still true??

We usually go when they open so we can ride on the safari and hopefully see the animals when they are a little more active. As far as going at 3:00 and having a lot of people leave then, remember they now have a parade in the afternoon, so many people will stay to see the parade and then leave. If you want to go in the afternoon, check to see when the parade is held or else you'll have to wait on the bridge until it passes.

We went at opening on May 16 and found it to be very crowded. The biggest crowd of any days at the parks that week. We thought maybe it was because it was a Friday and an EE day. (We didn't get up early enough for EE)

When we first went to AK we followed the advice of the time and went early in the AM to ride the Safari and see the animals at their very best. The ride was fast, too fast to really see the animals for more than a glimpse. Last year we went to AK in the PM and rode the Safari in the middle of the afternoon. We didn't have to sprint over to the attraction to avoid the throngs of fellow riders, we didn't have to wait to get on and the ride was much better paced. We saw the giraffes up so close, it made me want to stay at the lodge and just watch them some more. It was a much better experience. Do stay for the parade. It was a kick!

We always go in the morning and head out of the park by 1:00. It is just too hot there in the afternoon for us. We never had a problem with the crowds in the morning but then again, we always go offseason!!
