Is AFLAC worth it?

Do any of you have AFLAC and if so, do you find it worth the price?

My work is now going to be offering AFLAC vision, hospital, cancer, accident, and dental. We (my and DH) currently pay nothing for our Blue Cross as his work pays for it.

If you have it, do you find what you have gotten out of AFLAC to be worth it?

We had it. I tried to put a claim in & they never responded. I sent the paper work 3 times.

My husband has it thorough his work We really like it. In RI they have temporary disability but state workers can't pay into it so this is the next best thing. They pay for physicals, cancer screening, eye appointments and a bunch of other things

we have it for accident insurance and so far we like it. I believe I've had it for about 1 year..maybe a little more. DH doesn't work for the company we got it thru, so we pay for it on our own now. We pay quartly for it now vs every pay period. I have learned to put the $$ into a seperate account weekly, so that I have it there and I don't get him w/a bill for approx $140 that I wasn't expecting. That's what we pay for family, DH, myself and kids.

I put a claim in in november for a motor vehicle accident and f/u I had in oct/november and got my $$ within a week or 2. I had actually called our sales rep to find out how we change over to us handling it when DH left his old job and I asked him (it was about 2 weeks after the accident) if motor vehicle accidents were covered and he said absolutely, sent me paperwork. I got necc info from my doctor and hospital and sent it out. I actually got about 500.00 more than I expected!! I was kept overnight, as the accident put me into preterm labor. I did not have any tests (other than blood labs) because I was feeling ok (except for the labor part) and didn't want xrays, etc etc being 24 weeks preg (would have got more $$ if I did).

Main reason I had got it was because we have a young son..and I'm surprised I haven't had to use it on him...now we have 2 young sons.

Sorry I don't have too much information on it but my In-Laws had it and they absolutely loved it. My MIL passed away a couple of years ago from cancer and they though AFLAC was a god send. They had AFLAC through my MIL's work and becuase it worked so well with them my FIL is continuing his plan.

True story...

I was talking to my brother about a month ago and he mentions that he just got AFLAC insurance. He was all excited about how the insurance would pony up some money anytime the kids had to go to the doctors, etc... I thought he was a bit goofy about it, but since DB and his youngest daughter both get sick a lot, it might make some sense to have.

Not two weeks later, DB was injured at work, broke his leg and shattered his knee into 6 or 7 pieces. He'll be out of work for around 6 months at a minimum and will have to have his knee completely replaced. Since DB is a cop in a small town and was injured "on the job", his injury made the local papers. When he called his AFLAC agent, they actually said, "We were wondering when we were going to hear from you! We've got your paperwork all ready for you to sign."

My DH has regular disability insurance through his work, so I don't see the need for AFLAC for us. When DH didn't have disability ins. from one job, we got his own disability ins. policy through State Farm. My understanding is that AFLAC is a bit different from regular disability ins. My brother's AFLAC pays something for each doctor's visit and for each day he misses work. DH's disability ins. covers a percentage of his income in the event he is unable to perform his job due to injury/illness.

I have the cancer policy and pay about $230 per year for it. I did get cancer and it paid a lot of money straight to me. It was great. Now I get at least $1800 per year for treatments I get so yes, its worth it to me. I send in the paper work once per year and they get a check back to me within 5 days.

I had it about 5 years ago. I used it for maternity leave with my 2nd child. However, they would only pay for a short time, even for a csection. They would not pay for extended time due to post partum, they said they dont pay for mental disabilities.

I had it a number of years ago when I needed carpal tunnel surgery on both of my hands - several months apart.. They were right on the ball - whatever my state disability didn't cover, they made up the difference so that I received my full pay check every week.. I think I was out 6 weeks the first time and 8 the second time..

I would strongly adivse people to take advantage of it if it is available.. My DD didn't have it - has been out of work since the beginning of January and has yet to receive even ONE state disability check.. They're still "processing" the paper work..
