I'm thinking about buying a new laptop. Is Acer a good brand?

I found one that had 1gb memory and 120g hard drive. I'm thinking that seems pretty decent for my needs?

Any thoughts or comments?

I just got an Acer laptop at Thanksgiving. I haven't had any problems with it. I have a 17" screen, 1G memory, 120 or 160M hard drive, so it sounds similar to what you have.

DH, the computer whiz, bought it for me so I'm sure it's not a bad brand. He won't buy computer parts unless they are "good enough"...he's kind of a tech parts snob.:)

We bought an Acer desk top and the guy at the computer place said basically all computers are the same (doesn't matter on brand) you want to look at if it meets your needs as for as speed and space go.

Having the name brand doesn't always mean it is the best.

Cool - Thanks guys! This one has more memory and hard drive for less money than the other ones. I'm off to get it now!

A guy I work with once bought an Alienware laptop... absolutely top of the line. He paid over 4K for it.... they finally replaced it after it was sent back 2x... so, ya never can tell.

Memory and Hard Drive size are only a few of the specs to look at, also check:
Processor speed
Bus speed
Memory speed
whether audio and video are onboard (uses the same memory as the OS) or whether they are additional
Hard drive speed

several more I am forgetting...
Post a link to the specs if you want more comments.

is it the ferrari 5000 model???

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 series. The only negative I have with it is the battery life, which is terrible.

my husband and i both both the exact same acer laptops last june, his works fine... but mine is having problems with the screen coming in and out and doing a lot of flashing. I called acer and they were no help what so ever they said it's the way i am using it and that i must have dropped it and i told them no i never dropped it.
other then that, there good computers

Not quite as good as Dell, but still serviceable.

I have an Acer Aspire 5672WLMi. It´s great. Haven´t had any problems with it at all (I´ve had it for a year).

I have an over-2-year-old Acer Aspire 1360WLMi.

It has been an excellent laptop, especially for the price.

I also purchased extra cover on my laptop for 3 years collect-repair-return. This cost me an extra $100 and includes discounts on new screens and batteries.

I purchased this cover because I spent over $2,000 on a Samsung laptop. At 7 months, it developed a power supply fault (power going in, battery not charging). Despite a 3-day-collect-repair-return policy, Samsung had my laptop for over three WEEKS. At 8 months old they returned my laptop to me, repaired.

However, at 13 months old, the same fault reoccurred. Samsung refused to LOOK at my laptop for less than $200. They denied it was the same fault and demanded an initial $200 assessment fee.

I took my laptop to an independent repair shop. The gentleman examined it, said it was the same fault as was listed on the previous repair documentation, and fixed it for $120. He also had three other Samsung P10 laptops in his shop - all with the same fault. Despite numerous phone calls, letters etc. to Samsung, they refused to admit that the model was faulty.

At 20 months old, the same fault developed. I bought a new laptop.

My first laptop was an Acer, over ten years ago.

I had some issues with it, the fan died twice, the casing around the screen fell apart, the battery never held a charge, and the O/S just never seemed "quite right."

I would buy a Dell or IBM before an Acer. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
