Is a Savannah View worth having less space?

We are booked for a 1 Bedroom with our 2 girls (9 and 4) in the middle of November. I have waitlisted and have been stalking a 2 bedroom Standard for the same week, but now I can't help but question if having an extra bedroom is really worth giving up the Savannah view for our first visit to AKL? It got obnoxious with them being on the pullout couch during our last stay at Boardwalk, but that was 2 years ago when they were less easy to settle and we were there for 4 days through Christmas. This time we have 7 nights, 8 days and will be spending at least a day or two at the resort or wandering Disney Springs at our leisure.

Are you talking about a villa or a resort room? Resort rooms typically have 2 queen beds, which should be okay for you and your girls if they can share a bed.

You will have two separate sleeping spaces for your girls in a 1 bedrooom I’d go with the view

Kids that age usually fall asleep pretty well after an exhausting day at the parks. If you are worried about waking them up when you make coffee in the morning then just bring the coffee maker into the master bedroom.

We've stayed in a savanna room before and honestly I'd rather have the extra space. I guess it depends on your traveling style, but we didn't get to see the animals too much. I can't remember the exact time when they release the animals into the savanna, but it was somewhere around 6:30/7am. We often leave the room by 7:30/8am, so we didn't see them much in the morning. Plus we were getting ready to leave, so we weren't sitting out on the balcony enjoying the view. We didn't come back to the room until nighttime, so we couldn't see much of the animals then either.

We always book 2BR units for our Disney stays (we have DVC), so I am a little biased towards 2BR rooms.

Thank you! It's more about having the space for my husband and I to sit and relax and the kids having their own space for their stuff. They took over the living room last time and believe it or not, even at 18month and 6, we had a hard time getting them to sleep! It's a hard choice because there are pros and cons both ways.
But that is actually a very good idea about the coffee maker!! If we stay in the Savannah, I will do that!!

How many points will she lose? how many points is she willing to use? I’m too lazy to look it up, but I would think 2 bedroom standard view villa is more points than 1 bedroom savannah view.

I believe PP is wrong about the animals. They sleep outside. They are called into the barn, one group at a time, each morning, and then released.

How much time will your family be relaxing in the room? Or eating in the room? If you are not in the room, or you are asleep, it doesn’t matter what animals are outside your balcony.

Thank you for your thoughts! I think that's may main concern is getting the smaller room, but not actually getting to use the view much. Plus my kids are hot messes and I like to be able to close a door on it. Hahaha!

She would lose 185, but she is allowing us to use some points from this year too. So the 1 bedroom Savannah is 223 points and the 2 bedroom Standard is 229. It's really not a big difference in points at all which is what makes this hard! Thank you for that, you've given me things to think about and discuss with the family. I may just leave it all alone and leave it up to the Waitlist Gods. Either a full week comes through or it doesn't! Lol!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom standard view and loved it. If the girls wanted to see the animal, they just walked down the hall to the windows overlooking the animals. At night and in the morning, we you need some private time, you will have the living room empty and available. Go for the space1

I wouldn’t want to stay without a view of the animals, to me that’s the main reason to stay there. But I know others don’t care. So it depends on if seeing animals from your balcony is important to you. Honestly, how many places can you stay and have that view? When we were there (granted it was quite a while ago) we saw lots of animals every time we were on the balcony- I guess we were really lucky. It’s just such a unique thing to experience, and the main draw for us. But if space is more important than the unique experience of animal viewing from your room, then you should do the 2 bedroom. It’s just about priorities. Are your kids old enough to understand that they need to put their things away, or are they still too young for that? If they are old enough, maybe give them the option to choose.

My experience with a Savannah view was extremely disappointing and definitely not worth the cost as animals are animals and will roam where they wish! Personally I would go for the space as you can view the animals (for free) from many places at AKL.

We like the Savannah view at AKL but we're going in February of next year just for a few days so we decided to take pool view so that we can be closer to the lobby, restaurant elevators, buses and pool exit. We've decided that for such a short time, we'll not miss the savannah view and will just use the public views for the animals. If we stayed longer, we'd probably go back to savannah view, but I didn't feel it was worth it for the time we were there especially when there were other priorities related to location.

For your needs - I would say space trumps the view. There are a few areas within the resort that you can view the animals so for this trip, that's what I'd go with if it were me.

I'd pick the view. If I didn't have the view, it's not worth it to me. I'd stay somewhere that doesn't have bus transportation to everywhere (MK and Epcot resorts), and visit AK for dinner and animal viewing 1 night.

We've done almost all of the above options at AKL, except DVC. Our standard view rooms were fine, Or savannah view rooms were great, and visits just for dinner are fine as well. We don't really need two bedrooms, but big rooms can be fun.

If we have a savannah view, we make time to use our balcony. If we don't have the view, we view them at one of the viewing spots, but maybe see a little less of them.

You should talk to your girls, and ask them to be a part of the solution. Empowering them may well= a treat for you. Do they prefer more room, or a better view? Are they willing to cooperate/behave well to get that choice? Nine is a great age to have her write a list of pros and cons of each, and have a fun family discussion. (Your spouse can be the tie-breaker if necessary.)
