Is a resort + ticket package more expensive than the individual components?

Hi all,

We are planning a September visit to ASports (09/10-->09/13, 3 adults) and checking the different price scenarios thru the Disney parks website (all prices are plus tax):

Room – Only: 478.77
Room + 3-Day Base ticket: 1,609.95
Room + 3-Day Park Hopper: 1,849.56

Now, if when checking the room availability I choose a package:

Room + 3-Day Base ticket: 1,716.84
Room + 3-Day Park Hopper: 1,956.45

!! It seems that a combo is MORE expensive than its components. If fact, if I price the tickets alone for those dates, I get:

3-Day base ticket: 1,126.98
3-Day Park Hopper: 1,366.59

Can it be than I doing something wrong here?

I've always found it to be, so I've always booked room only and then tickets separately. Saves a good chunk of change that can be spent on snacks!

I think it may have to do with the way taxes are calculated. Book the room and then buy discounted tickets from AAA or Undercover Tourist and link them. Personally, we book directly with Disney as a package, if we have to cancel, as long as it's within the cancellation period, you get refunded for everything, including tickets. It's worth it for the slightly higher price and usually less than trip insurance. I believe UT will refund most of the ticket price, but it's easier to cancel with Disney if needed.

When I check, I only got a $5 difference, but the package was higher than a la carte. However, I recived lower prices for the hotel ($427.68) and non-hopper package ($1558,84). I was checking Sept. 2023.

Double check the number of park days, many times with a package, if you pick 3 nights, disney will default and provide you more park days than you want. Also, if there are any discounts you're adding, some are room only and some require a package so that can account for paying more for a room in one scenario vs another, however, the ticket prices are the ticket prices and those don't change. Just an FYI, there is a discounted ticket deal for september, you can get 4 days for less money than 3 days, see below. You cannot repeat a park and you cannot hop but you can visit 4 parks for less than a 3 day ticket rn.

You aren't comparing like vs like. One has a discount applied.

This includes the up-to 25% off summer room-only discount:

Room – Only: 478.77
Room + 3-Day Base ticket: 1,609.95
Room + 3-Day Park Hopper: 1,849.56

These figures are a package without the (room) discount: (room portion comes to $585.66 instead of the $478.77 above):

Room + 3-Day Base ticket: 1,716.84
Room + 3-Day Park Hopper: 1,956.45

So I come up with a $4-$5 difference (slightly higher for the package). Whether they consider that to cover the "magical extras" or what is beyond me. I've never been able to get a package vs room-only plus tickets to balance out. Go with the price and flexibility that works best for your family.

Agree that maybe UT tickets would be a little cheaper. Nevertheless, I prefer to deal directly with Disney (less hassle, and have heard that some people have had problems with UT).

I believe that the prices may vary depending on which particular days you are visiting.

Agree with the 4-Day ticket package for September, but my wife wants to have the Park Hopper option and one MNSSHP day so, 3-Days plus Hopper (plus MNSSHP ticket )

In my experience when I've priced x nights, it populates the package with x+1 ticket days.

That's right. Nevertheless, in the next screen you can change the number of ticket days, and my numbers reflect that.

Nope. Packages or bundles aren't always your lowest price -- and that holds true in many things not just WDW bookings.

I guess the page could make it more clear that tickets can be added to a room offer (thus resulting in a package). But other than that I think if someone is too rushed to read through the options and check pricing, they should probably wait and book when they have more time.

Unless there is a great package deal that definitely will save me $$, I will always go with RO+Tkts mainly because a package has to be paid 30 days before check-in (unless this has changed) and a RO doesn't. Even though I always try to payoff our room prior to check-in, it's nice to know that I have that extra month to make another payment if needed
