Is a Playstation 3 too much?

DS12 is asking for a PS3 for Xmas. Other than one or two games, that is all he wants. I originally thought, no way, but now with the price down, I'm thinking maybe? :scared1:

He actually prefers the PS2 over the Wii (which is seldom played in our house, and sorry I bought), and the games coming out he wants to get are either PS3 or Xbox. I'm thinking that anything of value, gamewise, is only going to be for the new hardware.

It will be the only thing he gets, and I can swing it if I use money I set aside for FL. We are waiting for Wizarding World to open up, so that trip may not be for another year. Have to say that DD15 is getting an iTouch, with one or two smaller items.

So, am I crazy? Honestly, he would be thrilled, mainly because I keep telling him no way!

If you want to and can, why not?

You can always sell the Wii if no one is playing it to offset a bit of the cost....

Sure I know a lot of teen boys who are getting a gaming system for their Christmas Present. Actually it seems to be the norm, and if they already have the one they want then they just get a bunch of games or accessories.

I would much rather get my kids the one big present they really want than several smaller gifts that they really don't want. By this age they know what they want and will use. Go for it.

My DS13 is the same as your DS ... the PS3 is all that he asks for. We also have the Wii and play sometimes as a family (bowling, TSM) but not nearly as much as he plays the PS2. I went ahead and got one. He is old enough to appreciate the cost and know that that is why there aren't that many other gifts this year. I actually gave DS his early since we are leaving for Disney Christmas Day. Didn't seem fair to have him open it and then leave for a week! :upsidedow So I say if you can swing it, go for it!

You can do this at Game Stop or Entertainmart if you have them in your area. They can give you instant store credit to put towards the cost of the PS3.

Love Love Love the PS3. It doubles as a bluray player (if you don't already have one) Also if you are with Netflix they will send you a free disk which plays all of their watch instantly movies and shows through the PS3 system.

I think getting a PS3 for his gift is a bad idea if he really will be using it.

An idea if you really don't use the Wii is to trade it and the games into EB games and bring your price down for the PS3. Just an idea.

Well, glad to see no one thinks this is insane. I honestly have never spent this kind of money on them for Xmas, but as they get older, everything is electronics and expensive ones at that!

He WILL be thrilled!

Now, I am thinking I might buy youngest DD a new DS lite, the cheaper one, not the DSi. She has dropped it once or twice, but even with the armour, it fell in just the right way that the one corner cracked off. Top is barely holding on. She wanted a new one, but told her no as well. She needed to be more responsible before I would get her one.

Wow, if I do this, I'm done w/ the kids!

If you can afford it - it's the one thing that he really, really wants - and he won't expect a bunch of other stuff, why not? :santa:

Just letting you know.....That sonystyle.com is giving a free PS3 away with an HDTV purchase.
If you or someone you know is lookimg for a TV. The deal cannot be beat. 879.00 for a 40 inch Bravia 1080P and the free PS3.
Just a thought!:happytv:
