Is a long weekend too short?

Does anyone take long weekend trips (Wed-Sat or Thurs-Sun)? If so, do you find it's enough time or do you come home exhausted from trying to fit things in to a few days? We usually visit 2 parks per day as it is because we have our favorite things to see and do and it's just the two of us. Just wondering if we should give it a try.

Thanks!

I've done a couple long weekend trips. As a DVC memeber I consider it a "perk". I'll be back, so I don't need to see everything in one weekend. We just hit the highlights that we like or whatever special event we are down there for. Plus, the bonus of answering a co-workers "So what are you doing this weekend?" questions with "Going to Disney World. See you Tuesday!" is just the icing on the cake :teeth:

We have done it. I think it is actually fun. We did it before we owned DVC. I was just sitting here trying to plan one for Food and Wine. No kids. That is a break in itself. We can do as we please. You don't have to waste half a day in line for splash mountain if you don't want to. So I think yes they are a good thing.:flower:

I would go...see your favorite stuff and save the rest for next time....that's the beauty of being a member...

If you are coming from Maine I'd probably make my long weekend four nights if at all possible. If you catch the first flight out day one can be a full day but you aren't too likely to be able to spend much of your last day in the parks unless you have a late flight. I'm a two park a day person myself and in three days (and off season) I can see enough to be satisfied. MGM/EPCOT, AK/EPCOT, MK, maybe EPCOT.

I am thinking about doing a 2 nighter at Hilton Head in May (Sun and Mon nights). We live in Atlanta and can drive there by about 1-2 P.M. Then we would have all afternoon/night, all day Monday, and Tuesday could leave after lunch. We just joined DVC and wanted to get a feel for the HHI resort. Anyone think this limits us too much for this property?

We are getting ready to do that right now! I leave home at 3PM, meet DH at the airport and we're off until Monday! We plan to spend Saturday at Blue Springs State Park in Orange City FL. They count manatees at the spring and during this time of the year, it's around 120 per day. We have some special dinners planned in WDW, and hope to hook up with our table mates from the '05 Members Cruise.

Our next long weekend trip is over Mother's Day. We want to share the special day with Mom and DSis, staying at BWV.

We try to get bumped from the plane every chance we get to help with airfares for these much loved visits.

We just moved to NC, and are making our 2nd trip to HHI tomorrow. I think a 2 nighter is fine. We did the same last September. 2 nights will be just enough time to see what the resort is all about...in fact, last time we were there we met a family from Atlanta that uses all of their DVC points at HHI. They said they NEVER go to Orlando! It's definitely worth the trip! If you have any more questions, you can send me a PM.

Have Fun!

I just scheduled my first one. That trip will be my first stay at OKW.

And it's not even a long weekend. It's just two nights. I didn't want to stay on both a Friday and a Saturday night because the point cost really would have been out of control. As a result, I'm going to take a Friday off from work. After work on Thursday, I'll head straight to the airport and fly to Orlando. I'll then basically go right to sleep on Thursday night. I'll then have all day on Friday to do what I want to do. I will check out on Saturday, but my flight isn't until the very end of the day on Saturday, so I'll also essentially have the full day that day to enjoy.

I got a relatively inexpensive flight, and I had the points, so I figured why not? I'll get away for a bit, and I'll get a little bit more mileage from my AP and my DDE card.

We have done the weekend thing at WDW a few times and had lots of fun. I think the key is that it depends on when you go. As one poster mentioned, if you go in peak time, you'll spend most of your day in lines. If you go in September, you can walk right on almost any attraction.

On the other hand, if you're a die hard, wouldn't it be worth it just to be walking around WDW holding hands with your honey?! ::yes::

ABSOLUTELY!!!:flower:

I was wondering the same thing about a long weekend trip. We're taking our first actual long weekend (Fri night arrival, Mon night departure) at the end of January. It feels sort of adventurous b/c we planned it last minute and are mainly going to preview EE and get out of the bitter cold for a few days.

I hope it won't feel bummed that it was so short when we leave for home...but the best part is we know we have a trip booked for the summer so it's not really THAT long before we go back :). I'd say go for it and just plan to hit the highlights!

Good luck!

I just booked a long weekend today! My daughter and I are doing 3 nights at SSR to do the EE ride while the boys are at a hockey tournament! A long weekend is better than no weekend! :rotfl2:

With points and annual passes, it makes long weekends easy! And now with the regular AP rates back, even when we run out of points it still is a great way to go. We typically do a 4 night weekend a couple of times a year.

Us too, we couldn't stay away from EE opening :cool1: :cool1: so we are coming down on the 26th and leaving on the 29th. We were just there for Halloween so we did alot then. DH, DS, DD, and myself have sat down and decided the 3 things we each want to do at each park and will try to formulate a plan of attack from there!! See ya all there.

I can't answer your question from experience yet, but I sure hope the answer is YES!

Last Friday I got a "hankerin'" (as we say in the south) to take my 2.5 yr old back to WDW for a quick mom and daughter trip 2/4 thru 2/7 (bad, bad DVC :teeth: ). When I called they had a BWV (BW view) studio available for 2 of our 3 nights. Whoo-hooo. :cool1: I took it! We'll have to move to a preferred view on the last night (unless the waitlist comes through--though highly doubtful) but that's okay.

I'm so excited about the trip I'm about to burst. We were just there at the end of Nov beginning of Dec, but had my parents and 1 yr old with us so I didn't get to spend much time with my 2.5yr old DD. My parents had her most of the trip while DH and I took the 1yr old. But this time it's just the two of us and I'm THRILLED.

So I say go on your trip. It's a good way to tide you over until the next longer one comes along (or the next quick trip....whichever comes first).

We've done it lots and often have days where we don't make it to a park or perhaps just go for a meal. We found that the more we came the less we felt compelled to pack every minute. Think chill. Go for it!

Have done several 3 night stays at WDW and , as others have said, because I have been many times before, I do not feel rushed at all...can just hit the highlights and relax a little. Since Southwest serves my home airport and since I am a DVC member, bought an AP and DDE (good til Nov 06) I am actually planning to snag a cheap airfare and go down for just ONE NIGHT sometime this year...all by myself! Leave very early on a Friday and come back late Saturday. Went in Nov of '05 with adult friends, no kids for 3 nights and it was awesome ...Southwest has offered $65 round trip recently, value resorts are usually around $75 a night(AP disc.) or I could use my DVC points, ME is free, and I have an AP so I figure I can spend 36 hours or so at WDW for about what it would cost me for a massage and facial at the spa (2 hours!)
