Is a Game Cube worth it?

With all the buzz over the XBox 360 and rumored PS3 for next year (or 07) is it worth buying a Game Cube for DS (9)? Or will that be very out of date very fast?

I just won't spend $400 on a game system, but can swallow $100.

well, i love my gamecube dearly. it broke actually a month ago, but thats because i had afirst generation and they were shotty. I am probably going to shell out the $100 for a new one, because im not an Xbox or playstation fan, and the nintendo revolution isnt coming out until much later than those two. Which means, in the meantime, there will be plenty of new games coming out for the gamecube. So i think its worth it.

I dont see how xbox and playstation are worth the price they are coming out for. thats outrageous. In the end your getting just as much entertainment out of it.

I don't own a gamecube, yet. The kids are getting one for Christmas. But I definitly think it's worth the price, especially if you want clean, kid oriented games.


We own an XBox, and will be getting the 360 (not to mention we've owned just about every game system out in the last 10 years). But there are very few games for kids on the XBox and there are no plans for such games.

I think it's a matter of opinion. I got my son, now 7, Gamecube last year. I did a lot of research on it and I thought it was the most kid friendly. Meaning.....although you can get some violet games for Gamecube, it tended to have more "fun" type games like MarioKart which my son loves. For him, it's great. Not that he doesn't ask for the other systems, but he loves his Gamecube. He also has the converted to play his Gameboy games on Gamecube. If you wait for the right bundle, usually around the holidays, you can get an extra controller and game. Hope this helps!!!!

alright, if you have young kids the only way to go is gamecube EXCEPT for the greatest Disney game ever created, Kingdom Hearts, (if you don't know this game, your missing out)

Gamecube is more child friendly by all means. The games are more to a childs and parents liking. We have the Gamecube and a PSP2. DS wants the new XBox 360, but I think we have finally decided to NOT get it.

I actually got ours for free with a rebate by buying a new directv system 2 years ago the day after Thanksgiving. BUT I sure was at Circuit City very early!

We have a game cube and PS2 and my kids never play the game cube, only the PS2 I think it depends on the kid and what they like also. My 2 boys play it the most and they are 17 & 8yrs.

We got our kids a gamecube a couple of Christmas' ago. and we researched all the game systems and as mentioned before the games are more kid friendly than the other systems. my kids 7,8 and almost 11 love it and would play it all day if I would let them, of course they would have to fight thier dad for it. He's the worst one. I guess the games are'nt violent, Sports and mario. And they just got this game animal crossing it makes you sit and read. I dont get it but they all love it. I think I have played the gamecube 2 times in 2 years.

Animal Crossing is great - just beware that it can become very addicting (especially if you're a SAHM with kids in school all day )

Actually Revolution will probably be coming out before the PS3. I'm guessing a Revolution release in late spring or early summer 06. There are more and more news reports saying that the PS3 will be pushed back to Christmas 06.

We have a GameCube. My kids like it, but are a little envious when they go to the video store and there are loads of PS2 and Xbox games to rent and only a few for the GC (I admit I am a little envious also...).

We got the GC because of price, because the kids like the Mario games, and because they had Gameboy's and the GC has an adapter that lets you play Gameboy games on the TV - although I will say that they rarely use this.

You can get GC games for decent prices on Ebay and at times (believe or not) at Kohl's. I think Kohl's bought a bunch of less popular games and sell them at relatively inexpensive prices.

My DS5 and DS7 love Madden Football and Godzilla (I like this one also) and DD10 loves Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. The latter two games are "simulation" type games and there are some educational aspects to them. Occasionally, my DD10 will tell me about something that happened to her in the game, which is kind of humorous (such as "my cow got sick and died" or "no one will marry me because I don't have any money" ).

I think they get much more usage out of their Gameboy's, but I think there are some good social aspects you get out of the multi-player console games, such as cooperation and competition.

we got our gamecube last year at Gamecrazy. They had a special going on that they gave you 12 free game coupons.(1 per month) They also have used game systems but we went through 2 of them before exchanging it for a new one. That worked out though because the manager felt so bad he gave us a discount.

I think it depends on what your kids will be playing. Not all games for Xbox and PS2 are violent. My son LOVES anything sports related. He can play football, nascar, and hockey all day.
We do have a PS2 and a Gamecube. The biggest difference is there is never a big selection of games to pick from for the gamecube.

I went thru this huge decision last Christmas and ended up with the Gamecube.

There seems to be less of an assortment of games available but you do have the option of the Mario series which is an all time favorite. My choice revolved around the Gamecube games that seemed to appeal to my 6 yr old more so. Either way you should be fine as all have an excellent reputation and selection.

game cube is definitely better for the younger kids. My DS is 14 and is getting his first non nintendo system this year.

I have a gamecube and a PS2. The gamecube is great becuase it has all the Mario games. Those are the games you can't get with the other systems since they are Nintendo only.

I bought my gamecube for 60 bucks (used). You might want to check out the used ones. Most game stores will sell them used along with a couple of controls and memory cards as well will amazon.com for about 60-70 bucks. Works great I also buy most of my games used through amazon they are cheaper and they work just as well as the newer ones.

My little man loves, loves, loves his precious Gamecube! It is the best "toy" we ever bought him. We are just very careful about the games we choose. My Mom has accidentally bought a few that have been rated Teen and they went back immediately. It is a great little system for a young beginner IMO.

I'm 30 and I love my Gamecube, but I also tend to prefer non-violent, puzzle, sports, and team games, and those are areas that Nintendo is really good with.

We love the Mario Party games. DH and I play our GameCube for hours...we don't have kids.

If you like puzzle or sim type games, it's a great little system at a good price.

But, that said, I'm thinking of buying a PS2 just so I can play Katamari Damacy.
