Is a full week in Hilton Head too long?

Nope. It probably won't be long enough! We LOVED HHI and are itching to go back…LOTS to do at HHI or nothing to do if you prefer. :thumbsup2

depends on how you relax. plenty of great restaurants and sunshine. but it's not a real touristy area (like myrtle beach for example) and it's not as active a vacation as a disney park trip.

IF you have a car you can always drive to Charlestown or Savannah if you get bored.

And to me this is the attraction to it.
There are very few places I vacation that I could live , but this is one of them.
Great beaches. We spend two full days at the beach and Disney's beach house.
Spend a day shopping every trip.
Spend a day Kayaking or paddle boarding.
Sometimes we go to Savannah or on some kind of excursion.

I think about five days is enough at HH.

We'll be there for a week in a couple of weeks. Plan to just look around, relax and go to Savannah a couple of days.
We'll see how it goes.....not beachy weather and I am not one to just sit with nothing to do.
I did look up the movie theaters and some shopping and am packing movies and loading my Kindle with lots of books.

It's OK. Depending on how much beach / pool time you want. There is more to do there than at Vero Beach but way less than say Myrtle Beach. If all you want to do is relax & go to the beach then a week is fine…If you're not into sitting on the beach all day every day then you might only want about 5 days.

Great question and I love the answers. We will be there for the first time in early June and I was wondering the same thing.

5 days would be fine for 9/11 yr olds, but a week is OK also. We live 10 hours away, so we go for a full week. If you are closer, then try 5 days. There are a lot of activities/crafts in the summer for that age group. There will be a weekly pm dinner and pool party, 3 outdoor movie nights, 3 smores nights, many crafts. We rent bikes and usually split the days in half (am and after lunch). So, 1 day is AM beach, after lunch bike ride and ice cream. Next day might be AM DVC pool, afternoon is DVC craft with smores in the evening and pm outdoor movie (we watched frozen last year). Day 3 AM bike ride with a lunch stop, afternoon at DVC beach and beach house games, etc. We usually plan our week based upon weather and craft/activity schedule.

We have been twice for a full week, but not at the Disney resort (once in Palmetto Dunes, once in Sea Pines in VRBO rentals). My kids were 6, 9 and 11 the first time, three years older the next time we stayed for a week. A week was not too long for us, but it depends on how your family likes to spend vacation time. We love riding bikes at HHI and do that every day. We went to the beach most days, enjoyed some pool time, ate at several of the many restaurants to choose from, we grilled at our rental house a couple of times each week. We played mini golf once each trip, visited Harbour Town. It doesn't sound like a lot to fill the days, but somehow it did for us with no one getting bored. Savannah is not too far and would make a nice day trip if you want more to do.

HECK NO!!

The last two summers we have spent 6 weeks in Hilton Head and were sad each time we had to leave.

This summer is a 7 week trip. I'll never get bored.

Make sure you take their bikes.

We'll probably visit Savannah or Charleston on our May vaca...
A week of "wind down" sounds GREAT!:beach: CAN'T WAIT!
Especially sounds ENTICING when it is ZERO out right now!
Oh, the CHALLENGE to make it through a long cold winter!;)

We go about 2 out of 3 yrs, a week is about right for most, we prefer longer. Orlando and HH are the only places we could go routinely every year. We enjoy it so much that we've bought a condo there for when we slow down or retire.

For us, a week isn't long enough. We recently returned from our longest ever HHI stay, 9 nights, and we weren't ready to leave. But first, I agree that it depends on how you vacation. Go, go, go? If so, a week may be plenty. However, for relaxation that's the place! And I admit that we don't have 9 and 11 year olds, just the two of us, so your experience may vary.

We've only been to HHI for one stay, and it was only 5 days and I completely agree with some of those above that it's a good length, but we definitely could've stayed a few more days. We didn't realize there was so much activity going on in the evenings at the hotel that we tried to fit in as much outside the resort with that at the resort. It was a busy 5 days, but man we had a LOT of fun!! Maybe in '16 we'll get to head back down. :)

We were just there for a week in November with 2 kids (9 and 3) and loved it. We did lots of disney's nature programs, campfires and even took the kids to play in the sand at the beach. We did a day trip to savannah, a day trip to Beaufort (loved then horse drawn carriage tour). Took the kids twice to the sandbox childrens museum (they loved it) and went to the hot tub at night. Rented lots of movies. I could have stayed longer. The first time we were there a few years ago was in July. That was a different experience - lots of kids, activities beach - we were also there for a week and I felt like I could live there.
