Is a Disneyland trip on June 30th completely bonkers?

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I  are planning to go to DL/DCA on my birthday, which is June 30th. It is really the only day that we can do this, but I am a little worried about crowds because of all the new attractions. We both know the park really well, and know how to battle out the crowds, and since there is just two of us, I figure that we may able to weave in and out of them. Does anyone have any ideas on just how bad the crowds will be, as well as on ideas of when to arrive in the park and which FP's to grab first? We are also debating skipping DCA altogether and just doing DL.

Thanks so much everyone!! :) :yay:

DLR tries to draw crowds by opening new things every summer. If you ask this question every year in June you will get the same answer.

Are you "bonkers"? LOL, but no, no one is bonkers who wants to go to DLR in the summer.

Will it be crowded on June 30? Probably pretty crowded around the new things just like every summer it is crowded around the new things. The rest of DLR will probably look fairly normal.

Will it be a lot more crowded at DCA? Yes, but it will also have significantly more space to put people and longer hours for them to be there. I am not sure it will feel all that more crowded except in certain areas.

Should you skip going to DLR at all? Well, if anyone wants to avoid going to DLR when something new comes out and draws crowds, then they should never go in summer and should plan all trips for another month like May before the new things open. Other than that it is what it is. Lots of fun!

Check to see if that's a blackout day for the Southern Ca and Southern Ca Select annual passholders. If it is, you're in luck with it not being extremely crowded. That's when the gridlock really happens, when none of the passes are blocked out. We avoid those days at all costs.

It is a blackout day and that should work in the OP's favor. But it will still be crowded.

To your point about having additional places to put people, Disney is anticipating large crowds all summer. There are a few things working in the OPs favor.

1) Disney knows this will be crowded and they are planning additional entertaiment and other little things to keep people engaged throughout the park. They are putting on a full-court-press and watching closely.
2) Disney had blocked out sign-ins and employee access for many of the dates. That could be in flux as they watch attendance figures.
3) Disney has done quite a bit to try and engage frequent visitors early, before the opening. In addition to the regular CM previews, there are also early entry dates that AP holders can sign up for. The hope is to have locals visit at other times to keep the park more open for other guests.

In all, I would say you are not crazy at all. Just bring your patience and expect big crowds and I expect you'll enjoy the trip!

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful tips and feedback! :yay: I really appreciate it. I think we are going to go early in the morning and just have fun! We are also looking forward to eating the corn dogs--they are so glorious.

Thanks so much and I hope that everyone who is going to DLR has a blast!
