Is a deluxe ap worth it?

Kristin5 that would be great if you could get me info or a link on the gay day rates :) If you prefer I can give you my email address?

Thanks PrincessinOz, he's pretty gorgeous and well worth celebrating!

Here is the link to the site http://www.gayday2.com/, though I notice that the link to the hotel booking system is down at the moment. This occasionally happens but should be up again later tonight or in the morning.

The site shows you the hotel rates - from memory, they start from around 28th September and go for 2 weeks. But even if you could just get a few days with the cheaper rate, it would be helpful (you might have to move rooms though- or maybe split your stay between 2 different Disney on site hotels?) We are splitting our stay between a Good Neighbor hotel, and the GCH.

areweindisneyyet, that is great advice thank you so much :) I figure on my maths so far I'm ahead by a bit and thats not counting the stuff you mentioned. It just seemed a bit too easy to save money on a nice trip. I was worried I was missing something that was obvious to everyone else.

I know it can be much cheaper to stay off site, 2 years ago we got a room at a hotel I can't even remember the name of it now (I've blanked it out as it was so awful :), it did only cost about $60 a night though so to be expected :) ) as we had a number of unexpected expenses come up a month before we left and my DH was made redundant and didn't want to waste money by going, I refused to cancel the whole thing as we'd booked 14-day park hoppers, air fares, insurance, etc, and I knew he could get another job easily (which he did within a month of our return :)) I booked a cheap good neighbour hotel. It was so dirty - really filthy, furthest room away from the front of the hotel and no lights to get there and just didn't feel safe - it was the closest room to the foody section where PF changs is however they'd chained that section off so we had a 15 minute walk to get to the restaurant section rather than the 2 minute experience that would have made it a bit less of a let-down, and really dodgy sales guys - one of whom told us he had brain damage which affected his memory and would every day try to get us to go along to this time-share sales demonstration for a $100. We went the first day (we were broke and it bought lunch at the blue bayou!) and realised how dodgy it was and after that just said we'd already been and the tout would tell us he had a short term memory brain damage and didn't know he'd already talked to us. He was to be honest, lovely and pretty funny, but I thought the company hiring him was pretty rude, I was almost tempted to go along each day just for the $100 (we were really broke at the time :) ) but really didn't want to miss getting on to the Tower of Terror as quickly as possible. It all detracted from the experience. I want to make this a completely different experience as I've saved hard to afford it this time around :)

I've just checked the gay day rates for 2013 and they are actually in the first week of October which is a bit late, my youngest brother is getting married in thailand around then so we were hoping to make it a round trip plane ticket.

I'm so excited about this trip :)

It works out if you save well over $1500 as the difference between a 10 day hopper and annual pass is more than $150, and if you want to stay on site. For two weeks you would probably save that amount but most people stay for 5 - 7 days which makes it harder to save that much.

We are staying 12 days and thought about getting one annual pass, but would find it hard to make up the saving with only 10% saving on most things.

I wouldn't consider PPH as luxury but for under $250 per night it would be good. For families though staying onsite gets very pricy for larger rooms.

Where were the $320 10 day pass from??

Thanks Kristin5 you are the best! I can work with 28 September for several days :) Even if I do have a split stay which is fun anyway :) thank you a zillion times over!

Marvel, I'm not going for the cheapest accommodation this time around :) and so will save the money with that and the park hopper for myself. I've seen different prices for the 10 day pass, most folk seem to be getting them from flight centre. I haven't done so yet as I'm hoping that after march the mousesaver.com newsletter might have some news about passes, I saw somewhere (can't remember where, that new pricing\ticket news would come out then). I'm also hoping (although I feel kind of bad about it) that with all the financial unrest in the U.S. that Disney might bring out some great savings in the next few months.

In any case I'm really looking forward to a fun holiday where I really can believe in magic for a while :)

Glad you can use it! The dates worked out perfectly for us, as we will stay at GCH from 30 Sept for 4 nights, and celebrate DS birthday there (we are planning one of those in room celebration things or something like that for him).

Your AP may still come in handy for the first part of your stay too.

We are getting our 10 day tickets through our travel agent (not Flight Centre - not sure if they are cheaper?) I think we will buy them soon, as I am more inclined to think prices will increase yet again, after the apparent success of Cars Land. And, again I remind you all, I am not a risk taker! :rotfl:

Isn't it awful that we're all hoping the financial problems of the US will stay just until we go and get great rates.
I did mention to my husband the other day, when they were about to fall off the financial cliff, that I'd rather a bad exchange rate for our holiday than lots of Americans losing their houses and jobs. So kind, aren't I!?

Oooh I would do a split-stay, spend most of the time at a (still nice) off-site hotel, then really live it up for a few nights for your anniversary at the GCH or DLH :snooty:

Regarding the rate, I think it's just that not many people actually stay for that long at Disneyland, especially not on-site. Works out great for those of us who do though :thumbsup2 And over that amount of time the dining and merchandise savings really add up too!

Sugarglider, we always stay for 2 weeks in Anaheim, using it as our base. But we do go to DL a lot! (Last trip, we went there on 14 days, sometimes only for a very short time though). Then we do day trips/ tours up to LA or down to San Diego, or just to shopping centres/outlets. And we go to local sporting events (eg baseball, or ice hockey). There's always plenty to do! :)

Ahhh - you see that's where we are different - I also go into LA and San Diego but I go and stay locally. I'd prefer not to spend all that time going up and down on the expressway.
