It’s just a sausage isn’t it? Made from any left over bits of any animal that can’t be served as ‘meat’.
In Wales we call vegan/vegetarian sausages, Glamorgan sausages.
I don’t think it matters what sort of bread it’s in.

I think I'd get points for repeating exactly what DH says, but basically everything but the squeal counts.

A hot dog is not a sandwich. It's a category all of its own.

There has been some debate going back and forth regarding whether a hot dog in a bun is a sandwich. I can certainly understand the points on both sides. When I was young, we often didn’t have buns available, so Mom would slice the hot dog lengthwise before cooking and serve it between slices of bread. I would definitely call that a sandwich.

As a hot dog is a specific type of sausage made in a certain way, I would count the poultry versions as hot dogs. I don’t consider vegan options to be meat, so I would have a harder time considering them to be hot dogs, although if someone else did, I wouldn’t debate the fact.

Now I am going in the kitchen to prepare a hot dog with some caramelized onions and cheddar cheese. This thread made me hungry!

2. Never tried one but it would probably be at least as good as a chicken wiener.

I really have no position on any of the three questions. However, I would point out in many parts of the country Health Departments consider places that only sell hot dogs to be sandwich shops.
Sort of like , as a 65 year old, I don't agree with the state of California who for purposes of determining if someone can live in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly that says elderly is age 59 and up.
