Is a Canon s95 really worth the money?

Hi all!

I am just looking for a compact point and shoot camera with the highest picture and video quality. Those are really the only two things that I am interested in. The s95 has a lot of bells and whistles that I probably won't need--I don't aspire to do things manually--but the reviews are still saying it has the best picture and video (HD) quality. Is it worth the money? Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!:goodvibes

The video quality is very good provided you don't zoom once video recording has started. Doing so will use a digital zoom lowering your effective resolution.

Photo quality is better than the average P&S. Details are still a bit smeary...even in RAW format compared to a DSLR but that's to be expected. The real benefit is the F2.0 lens on the wide end and the backlit sensor. These two features allow it to get shots other cameras might capture a bit blurry. If you have a still subject the IS is one of the best systems around.

So...yes its worth the money in my opinion. What do you usually take pictures of? If its not always outdoors on sunny days then I believe you will see a benefit with the S95.

Hi and thanks for your response! :goodvibes

I really just use my camera for taking pictures of the kids and I have gotten in the habit of using the video on my camera instead of pulling out the big video recorder. I have a Canon right now and it takes pretty good pictures but I am always disappointed in low light situations. Also, I thought it would be great to get HD for the video. I appreciate your input on the s95--I am a camera illiterate but I am willing to pay for clearer pictures and video.

And I like the idea that one day if I want to learn some manual operations, it has that capability.
