Is 7 days too short, or 9 days too long??

Never having been to DLR ourselves we figured we'd take it nice and slow and be sure to do everything since who knows when we may return. I also want to go to DTD and do some tours.

Seven days is plenty long. You might want to take a day in the middle, rent a car, and drive over to the beach, kind of a "vacation from your vacation."

I would say do the 9-day, we had horrible crowds on the weekend. If I went for the 7 days @ DL I would definitely do 9 total skip the weekend and spend those days either in the pool at the hotel or rest the feet right in the middle of the trip.

But if you go Sunday to Monday this might be a challenge. Sundays, as we have found aren't as bad as Friday nights and Saturdays. So if you follow this advice (not saying I am right but....)you would be going Sunday to Thursday and then pick back up Sunday and Monday. This gives you a couple days to regroup and figure out if there is anything else you want to see. If it were me I would just mindlessly walk around and take in the beautiful details of the park for a day.

Of course the weekends aren't always as bad as when we have been going.
I have 3-kids but not as young as yours DD13, DS9 and DS2. I wouldn't know how to handle kids that are so close in age, but you know your kids best and would know if they can handle something like this.

That is one of the reasons we are staying longer because I figured weekends could be very crowded. Our package already includes a 7-day park hopper so I'm sure we'll be there everyday but on crowded days we'll just stay a bit and walk around or have something to eat. Either way I'm sure we have plenty of time to do it all.

We will have a car so the plan is to do some other sights while there.

After reading all your responses, and <aghem> discussing (translation 'having a big fight') with my hubby , we have decided to take the 1 week, Tuesday to Tuesday vacation, simply because it offered us the direct flights. Actually, it took dh talking to his Mom last night, who is from England and travelled a lot with him and his siblings when they were young (taking them across the pond to visit family), to admit that perhaps direct flights with young kids were more important than an extra couple of days!

Besides, I know my kids - they will be completely gung ho for probably the first 4 days, then slowly begin to burn out - by the end of 7 days, we will all be longing for our own house, our own beds, our own toys, etc...

Thanks everyone for all the responses - next trip will definitely be longer with some side trips to SW and possibly Legoland, the ocean (since Dk's have never seen the ocean yet!!) etc... For our first trip, we are keeping things lowkey, but in 1 or 2 years - look out California, here we come!! The baby will be older, we will need fewer carseats (can't reconcile hauling 3 carseats!!!), and Ds2 will be old enough to remember more as well.


I am so excited - dh is booking flights this morning, and I will be booking the package tomorrow, either thru our TA from AAA (who is not so good at getting back to me, so she has a very small window to get in touch) or by myself through the AAA website.

I'm an adult and want nonstop flights so I can't blame you

We are starting our trip in San Fran for 5 days and then since I don't want to drive 7 hours we'll be flying to LAX and at that point will pick up a car. We will be in Hollywood for 3 days and then drive to DLR for the rest of the trip.

We booked our trip through our TA as she got a better deal. I had gone to our AAA office and even though they had a nice package also I got a better room with our TA at a lower price.

Dh says I am already getting the reputation of being a boozehound on the board....sigh....oh well. Unfortunately, for him, it isn't true - one drink has me under the table (or perhaps it is fortunate for him...) comes from being either pg or nursing for the past 4 years!!

Perhaps I will buy the rum when I am down there - It would be a shame if it got broken on the plane trip - then I'd really have a reputation for being a boozer - stinkin' like rum everywhere I went!!

With a 5,3, and 1 yo... I have 3 kids too, same age spacing but now they are 8,7 and 5... anyway I think the 7 days is the way to go. And not because of the direct flights... but because that's a long time for such little kids to be away from home... and their routine.... (and momma's routine lol)

My philosophy is, what is easier for Mommy (and Dad) ends up being easier for kids - if parents are grumpy, who gets the brunt of it? THE KIDS! Therefore, if we are happy, they will have a better chance of being happy too, and keeping things as simple as possible keeps ME happy!

I took a 10 day vacation to WDW with my 2 dc age 2 and 4 this last summer. IMO it was WAY too long. By day 7 we were wanting to go home. They were both very well behaved though the whole trip and had no melt downs but we were all tired even with the daily naps and only mornings like 8-1 at the parks and pool after naps. We didn't do everything but we didn't want to either. I think having to been to DL numerous times that 7 days is more than enough even with a day to rest. We spent 5 days at DL with a 1 and 3 year old and felt like we saw what we wanted. I will not return to a theme park until they are 5 and 7 and can walk. Pushing two strollers was not fun but still better than pushing a double stroller IMO.

Convenient thing about CA, is that you can buy said rum in normal grocery stores or have it delivered with online grocery shopping.

Can you imagine the laundry?? No one wants to do that much laundry while ON vacation. Who wants to spend all that precious time in the laundry mat? Why it's enough to drive a girl to drink.


Just kidding. My youngest just started preschool this year so I am a little sad. You have just brought back some fond memories.
