Hello - First timers at Disneyland. Frequent WDW every year.

We are staying 6 days at the Disneyland Hotel.

Planning for:
4 Days at DL/DCA
1 Day at Knotts
1 Day at the San Diego Zoo

Is 4 Days at DL/DCA overkill? Should we do 3 days at DL\DCA and visit another local attraction.

2 Adults / no children.

Thanks

Rob

I did 4 days at DL/CA and I found that to be perfect, it was my first time also asfter going to DW every year. I am going back sometime in September abd going for 4 days again, seemed to be just the right amount of days to do both parks and downtown disney. I am sure no matter what you do you'll love it. As much as I love DW I like DL even better:cheer2:

I think to take it at a nice relaxed pace, 4 days is just fine for DL / DCA even w/o kids.

For one thing, DL does seem to take a bit more time than MK to take in all the attractions.

Also, if you want to take a mid-day break to stroll through Downtown Disney and lounge around the Neverland Pool, this would allow adequate time. (DTD is between the entrance plaza for DL / DCA and the Disneyland Hotel)

Hopefully Fantasmic is back up when you make it to DL. It's quite a different experience from the one at WDW. I still haven't figured out which version of the show I prefer...

Nope we always try for 4-5 days. If it were just me and dh I would still go 4 days. There is so much packed into the 2 parks!

We did four days in January and it was a little much for us just because we go to the park often and didn't take any breaks back at the hotel and I was a little sick. However since it is your first time I think 4 days will be perfect for you!

It depends a bit on when you go, but in general I think three days would be a minimum for someone in your situation. If you decide on three days you may feel like you wished you had a fourth day. If you stay four days you may feel like you stayed one day too long. Again, it depends on what time of year you go, how busy the parks are, and how leisurely you tour the parks.

You may find some useful info in this thread: "A DLR Guide for WDW Vets" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599

Four days isn't enough for our family! We're going for 6 days later this month. I hate missing anything and always seem to, which is why we keep adding an extra day, went for 3, then 4, then 5, now 6 and upgrading to AP's so we can go even more!

I'm terrified to go to WDW because its so big and I'm afraid I'll go home disappointed I didn't get to see/do everything I wanted! I would have to go for a month!

I'm toying with the idea of booking 4 days at DL hotels, but only planning on doing the parks for two. Was thinking of heading over to Universal or maybe Hollywood or Beverly Hills the other days. Is this a good idea? Some of the hotels I was looking at in Hollywood didn't look too nice. I'm traveling with a 13 year old. Unfortunately it's not giving me the luxury of not changing hotels because the GCH is available only for 2 of the nights and I would have to switch over to the DL hotel. Or my other option is to stay at the DL hotel for all 4 nights, but I really wanted to stay at the GCH since we had never stayed there. What do we think?

IdinCT, have you tried calling the hotel direct for rooms? (714) 956-6425 is the phone number. I hope it works out for you. I'm still dreaming of the GC one day.

No! We, 2 adults, spent 6 nights and had a 5 day park hopper pass and closed the park on the last day. It was great because we didn't feel like we needed to rush quite so fast and we could take time to enjoy a nice meal each day. We enjoy going on our favorites multiple times over a several day period and seeing fireworks and Fantasmic more than once. I would go to Knott's. I would skip the zoo. Getting to and from San Diego is stressful. We did it ONCE and decided we would not do that again unless we stayed a couple of days to make it worth the trip. If you have not done Unviersal in Florida, I would go in Calfiornia. Ir you have been to the one in Florida, I would skip it.

Four days is not too much at Disneyland. I usually spend six days in the DL parks plus one day at Universal Studios. I didn't like Knott's Berry Farm at all but that is just me. The San Diego Zoo is awesome!

Have fun!

We stay between 4-5 days. Allows us to do what we want and relax at the same time.

We just did 4 days.

It was so nice! We were very relaxed the whole time - no rushing to the next thing.

However, we didn't get everything in.

So, no. 4 days isn't too much. W/O kids, you'll be more likely to get everything in. It'll be very nice!

I thought I was the only one on the boards that didn't care for knott's! I just don't see the draw with that park. I agree about the zoo we loved it!

You won't be bored with 4 days but if you're worried about it, do 2 days, then Knott's and SDZoo, then come back to DLR.

You know what's funny.. I was just pondering the same question right before I saw this thread. I did 3 days in August and 3 days in December (with a 1 day break) but this December I'll (GOD WILLING) be staying at the Grand Californian and was wondering if 4 days would be too much. I don't think it'd be too much for me and my Disney fanatic friend... but we're also going with 2 others who are pretty neutral.

I mean.. they can just stay in the hotel. It's really nice. :earsboy:

:rotfl: DH and I will be staying 7 nights for our upcoming trip! And all 8 days will be spent in DL/DCA! It's our first trip together and we are excited!
Of course we are WDW vets through and through. No longer commando through the Florida parks. We easily spend our week long vacation strolling the parks and hopping wherever our stomachs may lead. THAT is a relaxing vacation.
So this year we are trying DL. We know we won't be encountering as many rides/shows as WDW, but since it is just the two of us we can stroll and not rush. We believe in true Disney emersion (thanks to you WDW!) so don't plan on leaving the DL resort area.
Also, to break up the days I plan on doing two tours. We enjoyed the Keys To The Kingdom tour at WDW and look forward to the tours at DL.

Ok, now that I have gone on my hijack rant, resume normal scheduling! :wizard:

Are you staying in San Diego overnight. It is at least a 2 hour drive from Anaheim to the zoo. And will you hit rush hour traffic?

4 days sounds good for a relaxed pace. I was surprised how big Downtown Disney was. Lots of places to eat there and surrounding area.

Have a great time!

I would try to get to Universal Studios if you can, esp if you have never been before. I won't visit DLR without also visiting universal. I love it. It is a short drive from Disneyland. Very different from the one in florida, as it is a real movie studio with lots of fun stuff to see on the tram tour. The water world show is great also. Depending on the day of the week and the season, I would think that you could get it done by mid afternoon and be back for a full evening at Disneyland. Hint: buy the "front of the line" tickets if you really want to enjoy yourself.
