I am planning on heading to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in early January, from January 9 to January 13.

I was considering purchasing a 4-day pass, but I was wondering if this would be too much time in the parks, anticipating that the crowds will be lower during this time of year.

Of course, spending extra time in the park is probably never a bad thing either.

i can tell ya.. i had 2 days back in september 2010, and it wasnt enough!!

we just had a week at Universal and it wasn't enough..we are headed

back next week:banana: but then again, we are addicted!

4 Days is great, particularly if you're not staying on-site. The best vacation to UOR we have ever had was a five night trip staying at PBH with four day base ticket with Wet n' Wild. We spent two days at USF, a day at WNW, and two days at IOA. We saw everything we wanted to and that was with the Express. Have fun, and four days is a definite. Happy Holidays!

Good to know...We are going the end of Jan for 5 days and staying onsite..I look at it as a nice leisurely vacation ..it is going to be much different from Disney and I am cool with that..

Four days might be "too long" if your approach is a march from each ride to the next. If you like to take things at a more leisurely pace, you can definitely enjoy four days in the parks.

Also, do you have young children with you? Four days might be a bit much for kids who can't ride most of the rides, though. Not impossible -- but it can a little frustrating for them, especially if they're watching everyone else ride the rides they can't go on.

We just went in October for 3 days and that was just about right, but we had early morning entry. Keep in mind that in January, you may not be able to ride the water rides in IOA. Also note that you WILL get wet on them! It is definitely a slow pace than Disney.
