Is 2015 The Year To Skip WDW?

We have a trip booked for Sept 2015, but we may be waffling a little. In light of all of the construction at MK in the hub, a possible rehab at Soarin, the Maelstrom closure, construction walls at AK, the re-imagining and closing of practically half of HS, Downtown Disney in a shambles...... Is this the year we should skip going to WDW? We have always wanted to go to Disneyland and with 2015 being their 60th anniversary, would this be the time to go to California until WDW gets put back together?

We are contemplating the same thing but we are thinking more of a Disney cruise.. I keep telling myself we aren't going but keep looking up hotels.. But at the end I think we will wait until summer of 2016 or until I start reading on here that things are getting back to normal..

I am also interested in the answer..I was not looking forward to going this coming spring, but my daughter is making Confirmation 2016 and unfortunately had promised her we would go April 2016 & cannot go.
So what do you DISers think about this???

We aren't going back until fall 2017.

Decided to try a RC cruise next year and not sure for 2016 (maybe another cruise if we like it!)

There is constantly something being re-furbed or under construction at Disney. It will be something else in 2016. Don't let the scare stories run you off.

Um, no. I agree with pp, but then again, I like change! DLR is a worthy substitution, though. Just be prepared that the 2 parks are great, but there is no bubble! If construction walls bother you, you might not like the panhandlers just off Disney property!

I already skipped 2014, lol. Well except for a day trip to try the mine train. This year there was so much going on at Universal I went there twice instead. I think I'll give Disney a break until they have something new. They didn't even send me a renewal notice for the annual pass, so whatever Disney, lol.

What's up w the closing of half of HS?

Closing of Backlot Tour, Indiana Jones, American Idol, etc in preparation for "re-imagineering" with rumored Star Wars/Pixar.

Oh ok cool. Is Indiana Jones confirmed a permanent closure or just rumor? If confirmed, then it pegs that Star Wars will go there between ST and the park entrance. I had long been predicting that Star Wars will head toward the other side of ST, in the Streets of America zone going back toward LMA and the Backlot.

Disney is always undergoing construction and refurbishments. For us, we can never fit everything we want to do into one vacation anyways- there are always things we end up skipping. When construction or rehabs are going on, we just work around it.

Honestly, the construction in MK was barely noticeable for us. They've done a great job concealing the construction with walls and it didn't impact our enjoyment of the park at all.

Animal Kingdom does have some walls up, but most attractions are running and in Spring 2015 there will be the opening of the new Africa section to enjoy! It's a beautiful park that still offers a lot to see and do.

Disney Springs also has sections scheduled to open Summer 2015 and should be looking a lot better than it does currently.

The attractions they've currently closed at DHS are not our favorites/priorities anyways- we love RNRC, TSM, TOT, Beauty and the Beast, the classes at the Art of Animation Studio and outside of those things, it's usually a half day park for us anyways.

So yes, there will be exciting things opening in 2016 and 2017 but I'll bet there will be lots of new walls and scrims up to replace the current ones! I've never been to WDW when there wasn't something under construction, but we've always had incredible trips because we go ready to have a great time. Often the walls are much more noticeable in photos than when you are actually there, surrounded by other sights and sounds and distractions. At least, that's what we've found!:thumbsup2

No way, we skipped this year we are not missing 2015. yes there is a lot going but there will always be some being worked on, refurbed, maintence. Im hopping by the time we get there we will be able to experience some new attractions, entertainment. They have a whole year before I get there to get some stuff done :thumbsup2

Sure, WDW is always undergoing construction. But this is extreme. We are skipping 2015 and maybe 2016. Next time we go, Avatarland will be open, Disney Springs will be open, the Hub will be finished, DHS will be on the upswing instead of the downswing, Norway will be back in business, Soarin' will be renovated and the Dolphin Resort will be done with its makeover. Way too much going on right now and in 2015 to make it worth our while. I expect big changes at DHS, but if we wait for all that to be complete, it will be 2020. Not going to wait that long. But 2015 seems like a particularly bad time to go with so much on the horizon just after that.

Indiana Jones closing is just speculation. The upcoming removal of the hat is the only construction that's been confirmed at HS.

Right, just speculation for now, but only a matter of time before Indy, Lights Motor Action, and others will be cleared out paving the way for something new.

2015 just seems like a good year to try something new like Disneyland. Maybe by 2016 a lot of this construction and re-imagineering will have settled down - until they decide to tear apart something else.

My issue is with magic band, fast pass plus disaster. We are focusing more on dcl for our disney fix. :beach:

When our PAP is over in February we are down grading to a weekday seasonal pass for FL residents and probably won't upgrade again until 2017.
