Is 10 months appropriate age for AK petting zoo?

If he is highly supervised? He loves to pet family pets and he would be absolutely fascinated (hopefully not also terrified) of the animals...does the park require children to be a certain age to enter?

There is no age requirement for the petting zoo. I don't recall seeing more than one CM standing around monitoring the petting zoo (which is outside of Rafiki's Planet Watch - you take a short train ride to get there). It's a pretty standard little petting zoo, with lots of sheep & goats and I think a donkey. They have brushes that you can use to brush the animals. One thing to keep in mind, is that there is very little shade in this area and the ground is very dusty, so it gets VERY hot quickly. My kids, who are HUGE animal lovers, don't even like to go to the petting zoo any more because it's so hot and frankly, the one at our local crummy zoo is better.

The rest of the Planet Watch area is great though. Try the sound booths where you sit inside and listen through headphones - it's relaxing for the parents and even the smallest kids get a kick out of the surround sound.

Watch out for the "raisens" all over the place on the ground. Other than that, I'd say its great. But I know some of my friends would die before letting their 10 mo olds -still likely to put fingers in mouths - touch those animals. poor kids! I would take them in to real soap and water afterward rather than have them eating nasty sanitizer off their little hands, though.

My son mouths everything so when we went to the Affection Section in early December (11 months), we just carried him & made sure he didn't touch. He loved just being there though & was very interested in watching the goats & sheep.

They do have hand washing stations (with real soap & water, none of that useless anti-bac foam!) at the exit. So if you are comfy enough with letting him pet the animals & don't think he will put his hands in his mouth right after, I'd say let him have his fun!

The animals are extremely gentle & there are cast members ALL OVER looking out for the children to make sure they are being gentle too!
