Does anyone know of an ironing board that will stand over 40" when open?

I'm not a big fan of ironing but a tall ironing board would help make the job a lot easier.

thank you!

My house came with a wall-mounted ironing board in a custom-built enclosure. Some suggestions for taller people is to get one and mount it higher. There might be a limit though depending on how long the board is and the distance to the ceiling.

Brabantia (from Holland) seems to come highly recommended although their boards are expensive. It says the height of their most common board adjusts from 30-38" height. I've only used cheaper portable ironing boards (especially in hotel rooms) and of course most adjust. However, they tend to be less stable as the scissor mechanism is adjusted higher and the legs are spaced closer on the floor.

I would second the idea of a wall mounted unit if at all possible. I feel it would be much more stable than trying to use a floor model at its highest height.

I’m a tall woman and I solved this problem by buying a stand up steam iron.

Do you have to stand while ironing? I always sit in a comfy chair infront of a TV if I have to iron something.

You can try checking around antique stores, and on ebay and Craigslist for a Rid-Jid wooden ironing board. They are highly coveted by sewists, partly because they are indestructible, but partly because you can vary the height adjustment by about 24 inches.

If you have a board with T-base legs, it probably would not be very difficult to add risers to the bases; you could probably even manage a few inches with an extra-fat pool noodle cut to size. (Pool noodles are so useful for DIY solutions; even better than duct tape, LOL.)

When I was teaching from home I used our ironing board as my stand up desk since it does not get used for its intended purpose.
