I don't think anyone would argue that both Emeril and Mario need to lose weight - a lot of it! But Alton was not just too thin, he looked sick. I can't put it in words...he just didn't look "right".

I love the American themed show with British judges, and those comments that the cauliflower and cheese was traditionally British made me laugh.

I also think the winners were pre-picked...how can you not pick the white house chef?

It wasn't at the White House. There was a very brief segment on the lawn of the White House with Michelle Obama and another extremely brief segment in the new White House vegetable garden. They used some of the produce in the garden during the challenge and the the connection was to promote healthy, local eating...one of Mrs. Obama's causes. It was on par with when the two different Mrs. Bush's had childrens programs film at the White House to promote their cause of literacy.

While I sometimes tire of Michelle's war on American poor diet habits.
It does seem that she walks the walk and talks the talk! and I can not fault her on that. To me she is very elegant and easy to watch.

Yes Alton looks very thin and pale. The birthmark on his face has always been there. If it his weight loss regimen causing this emaciated look then maybe he needs to change something. I hope that he is not ill, he seems to be a dear soul

Emeril and Mario very creative, very entertaining and nice to see them on the show again. They are big, cuddley guys ... they enjoy sharing food and enjoy having others appreciate their efforts.. .it shows.

Bobby and Chef C. seemingly more intense, and did not connect as well but I liked their food selections better this time around.


The British judges on the American themed show... too dang funny for sure!

Interesting....

The focus of last night's new episode of Good Eats was on Alton's realization after looking at footage of himself that he needed to lose weight and what he did to do it. How he changed what he ate.

They even touched on his "beauty mark".

I don't think he looked sickly. He looked a lot smaller than he previously was, which some may interpret as sickly since it is a dramatic change from several months ago.

Dramatic change does not necessarily mean there was an illness. Maybe it was just discipline and determination.

I think he simply looked like a mid to late 40's guy at a healthy weight. He's in his mid-late 40s. There's going to be wrinkles.

I met Alton at a book signing back in October and since then I've really been wondering if I was hallucinating his scrawniness. While I obviously don't know him personally, I've watched Good Eats for years and never thought he was ever overweight in any sense--guess he hid it well? While I realize he is aging, this weight loss seems to have prematurely aged him...

Now is stupid Cablevision would bring back my dang FoodNetwork and HGTV, I could watch this. I was really looking forward to it too. Dang cable company!!

i will admit that i was surprised when they announced the winners. based on the judges' comments, i was sure it was batali/lagase. so, i figured it was probably fixed.

i think alton looks too thin. that's just my opinion. i never thought he looked huge. but he did have some extra poundage on the feasting on asphalt (and waves) summer series. again, i didn't think he looked significantly overweight, but it was obvious he wasn't a tiny guy. i love alton.

Can someone tell me who the special guest was? Seems a few people were upset on who it was.

It is going to be shown on WPIX (Not sure what it's called now) channel 11 in NY on Sunday 8:00 pm because of the Food Network HGTV problem with Cablevision.
