IRMA - Castaway Cay

Any update on any of the popular ports? The radar looks like Nassau is still getting wind and rain. The Jose behind it...

The Atlantis resort released a statement that things were not too bad in Nassau. Unfortunately, the current track of Jose does look like he's going to turn around and come toward the Bahamas later in the week.

Jose will go east before the Bahamas.

Atlantis resort posted on FB yesterday that they would be fully operational today.

I must have missed the Jose update. Too bad.

I was curious about this thread. My family's 1st DCL will be on the Wonder in Dec going out of Galveston. I was first watching Harvey. Now I'm watching Irma for the ports of CC, Nassau and Key West.
Poor Key West :(
So sorry for those affected by this devastation. I know I have a first world problem worrying about a cruise. Stay safe Floridians.
We've been watching too, we're on that same cruise as you! 12/15/17! YAY!! We live 90 miles northwest of Houston, so we watched Harvey firsthand, but have been concerned for Irma and those on the island. Prayers to them all. We'll see you in December!

Howdy! I'm on the other Disboard Dec 15th with you!! Lol. I also live in TX, north of Dallas.
Are you in the FB sailing group?

The people that are most effected are those on the tiny islands, P.R., St. Thomas, St. John, Tortola, St Martin, etc. The problems they face are huge and they don't have the wealth of the U.S. to recover. Florida and Disney will recover quickly. The islands have a long haul.

The United States has already started relief efforts in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. John, because those are part of the United States. The British government has already started relief efforts in the BVI, including Tortola, and both the French and Dutch governments are currently focusing efforts on Martinique/Saint Maarten.

It will be of greater concern in places like and Antigua and Barbuda, although part of the British Commonwealth, they are independent countries and won't have the same force of wealth behind their rebuilding process

So I was thinking that perhaps DC might route some future cruises to Bermuda instead of the Eastern - but if you look at Jose's path Bermuda might get hit - good grief!!

Our hearts go out to everyone effected by this monstrous storm. So many beautiful places and wonderful people have to rebuild their lives in the aftermath. The sheer size of Irma's effect is hard to comprehend. We were wondering what all the Caribbean cruise lines were going to do until the islands are rebuilt for residents and visitors as well. I guess the answer will begin to form over the next few days. We've never really understood why most Bermuda cruises are out of NY/NJ, and none seasonally offered out of FL ports. Maybe 7 days just isn't enough time to sail there and back and have 2 overnights to make it work? But, hopefully there will be some options (perhaps only on longer itineraries) like this now. Also, the standard 7 days may not be enough to shift to Southern ABC Islands. But, given the number of ships across lines that winter in the Caribbean, modifying itineraries is going to be interesting. There is obviously a limit to how many can dock in each port daily. Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Mexico can't take them all.
