Hello, all. I have a question that I was hoping one (or many) of you can answer for me. My daughter is taking a choir trip to Ireland in March. She's going to be responsible for paying for all of her lunches and a few of her dinners while there. The rest of the meals are covered under her tour package. Can anyone suggest how much money she'll need to take with her to make sure that she has enough to cover this? Just an estimate on how much an average lunch and dinner will cost would be a great help. You can estimate the amount in Euros.

Thank you in advance. This information will help out 38 kids that are going on this trip.

Alot may depend on where in Ireland she is going?

:yay:

Okay, that might help, huh? Their itinerary is:
one night at The Old Ground Hotel in Ennis, County Clare
three nights at the Killarney Oaks Inn in Killarney
and three nights at the Trinity Capital Hotel in Dublin.

Ireland is like everywhere else
it all depends what you eat and where
Ireland will be a lot more expences then the states
a Mcdonald meal will cost you about €8
bar food is very good here €10-€20 for lunches
Dinner in a hotel could cost anything from €30- €60

but I'm sure who ever is taking them can give you an idea on how much to give her

sound like she is going to have a great time

Don't forget with the exchange rate

€8 = $10.50
€20 = $26
€60 = $78

Prices are more expensive here than in the US so allow her more money than you would for a US trip.

Hope she has a great time

Thank you eveyone. This information will definitely help. She is really looking forward to her trip. Some of the places she's going sounds fascinating and she has her digital camera and two 2GB memory cards to take with her. I just wanted to do my own research (with the help of my DIS family) about the money aspect instead of just depending on what her teacher tells us.

I was wondering if I should get her a prepaid Visa or American Express card to take with her instead of letting her take a lot of actual money. I'm pretty sure that the dollar to euro converstions would be done automatically but I would have to make some phone calls to make sure. Does anyone know if these cards are accepted in fast food (McDonald's, Burger King, Subway) type places?

Not to sure about credit cards for fast food
but I'm sure she would be able to use it at an AGM to get cash out , that way she would not have to carry alot around with her

or maybe the teachers could look after the cash for them and give them somuch of it at a time
How old is she

She's 15 so old enough to handle her own money. The teacher and other parent sponsors have already said that they won't be able to be the bankers for the 38 students going and honestly, I don't blame them. It's just sounding like she's going to need to take about €750 - €1000 to pay for the necessities and a few souvineers and such. They've been told not to leave money in their hotel rooms or in their luggage but instead to carry it on their person at all times. That's more money than I am comfortable carrying at once and I'm...well...let's just say older than 15.

Visa cards are less widely accepted here than in the USA they are taken in all shops and restaurants but she wouldn't be able to use one in McDonalds or any fast food outlets. Also there won't be a Burger King or a Subway and she might be lucky if there is a McDonalds in the two stops outside Dublin.
