Ipods/Gameboys on airplane?

I recently took a flight with my laptop computer bag stuffed with

laptop
charger
ipod
gameboy
gameboy charger
PSP
PST Charger
digital camera
extra batteries

Other than taking the laptop out of the bag, no one at security batted an eye. They see this stuff everyday and know it's safe.

On our upcoming April Trip, my DS10 will be bringing his Gameboy DS, Ipod and personal DVD Player....I hope not to hear from him for 5 hours!

Even my DD3 will have her personal DVD player (with little headphones),,,,,watching disney movies of course!! :)

18 teens and only 3 chaperones...??? You are one brave person!!!:worship:

Also, noise cancelling headphones help as well... My favs are the Bose quiet comfort ones although they are pricey... about $300.
But sure to test out any noise-canceling headphones before shelling out big bucks. They obviously work for some people, but I find them counter-productive, worse than nothing at all. They do a much better job at filtering the drone of the engines than of the conversations/beeps/etc. around you. Without the white noise of the engines, I am actually more bothered with such headphones than without them.

FAs are often reluctant to take action or cause a potential disturbance. I've racked up many many miles over the years and often the FAs include me in their chit chat. While they are just as irritated with the travellers who put their bare feet on bulkheads (or other seats), snif incessantly, or beep non stop, they won't always take action on 'minor' offenses and risk conflict in the air.

While noise cancelling headsets are decent at keeping out noise, they do not block all noise. Electronic noise still manages to seep through. And I don't believe in having to change my behaviour to suit someone else's selfish behaviour.

Believe me, I have no problem drawing an FA's attention to bad behaviour which negatively impacts others.

I fly 40-50 Round trip Flights a year and never have I had a flight attendant refuse to ask another guest. Now maybe it is an airline thing as I usually do Southwest and United for 80% of my trips but the times I have had to ask have been handle very well. I should have added though, if the person is near you, you should ALWAYS ask them first. Many times, they don't realize the noise (like our friend with the laptop who posted earlier) being made and will gladly lower the volume. OR in the case of the technology challenged, they don't know HOW to lower the volume and if you show them, they happily do so. BTW, it also works well to ask a person in front of you if you are in a non reclining seat and the person in front of you is full reclined. FAs can't really (or don't really) do anything with this, but most people will be nice and go from full recline to half recline. Just remember to do the same if someone asks you.

I have never noticed the electronic sounds with my Bose QC's. Granted, I do not just wear them as mufflers like some do, except when all electronic devices have to be put away, but with Music or with some sort of DVD or TV show playing, they block out 95% plus of unwanted sound... of course your hearing may be much better than mine, so maybe you filter certain sounds better. I will say though I still recommend these headsets regardless... not because you should have to change your behavior, but they are better for preventing hearing loss. The noise cancelling ability means one doesn't have to have their device turned up as high so they protect their ears MUCH MUCH better. Many experts recommend this for Teens especially. Plus in the few minutes when I do use them not for headphones, the QCs are help filter the engine out while letting me talk to anyone flying with me.

I am taking some of my 7th and 8th graders on a Disney Youth Education Series Field trip (www.disneyyes.com). Disney offers educational programs to youth groups. We are doing programs in chemistry, ocean science and production arts/media sciences. We also will be doing all the educational 'stuff' that EPCOT has to offer. Disney really gives a great deal for youth groups! It isn't so much an 'official' class trip (we are going over the summer), just something I decided to offer as the kids hear me talk about WDW so much and my room is 'Dissed out'..plus it puts a nice spin on the trip for me, doing these programs that I otherwise wouldn't be able to take advantage of on a regular vacation. Although these kids are truly awesome and have excellent manners and behavior, I am REALLY nervous about taking them! I will have 2 other parent chaperones, but I do want to make sure that everything runs smoothly and the kids have some great memories to talk about for a lifetime.

1) Find the nearest bar... you'll need it.

2) That is so cool. I wish my teachers had done that when I was in HS.

Good luck and have fun!

Fair point. The BOSE are big bucks... they make some cheaper models however that work fine. Just to point out, While many people use them to filter just noise as Salmoneous is stating, they are BEST used as Headphones for your electronic devices. Obviously the jets white noise sound is not really an issue IF music or Movie is coming through the headphones. Because they filter much of this noise (and for me anyway cancel out the electronic sounds) one doesn't have to have the volume up as high on the device and thus doesn't damage their hearing... a side effect to the ipod (and presumably most portable music players) that doctors are starting to see.

LOL! These are some great kids! I'm not saying anything is wrong with public schools (my kids go to public school!), but I have an advantage in that I teach at a small, elite Catholic school where I know ALL the parents and am friends with many of them. We truly are like a big family. So I know these kids will behave and I know if they don't a simple phone call back home will take care of the problem very quickly (plus, these kids know I"m serious about consequences!) Also, it isn't like a band trip or something where I am required to take everyone associated with a certain group..I can be choosy with who goes and simply say, 'no' to a child I know would not do well on the trip. I am soooo looking forward to sharing Disney with these students!

I fly 40-50 Round trip Flights

you are not the only one here who does - some of us fly more in fact

My point was that I really can't be bothered to 'call mom' every time someone does something annoying on an airplane. Nor it is always worth pointing out to someone that their behaviour is annoying. Frankly, we all do things to annoy others, often without realizing it. I don't bother to call United to complain about minor things either, even though they do throw miles and vouchers and upgrade certs my way for things I consider relatively minor.

I don't let a lot of things bother me, which do seem to annoy others. I don't have an issue with seat recline, for instance. The seats were made to recline, so recline away. (And I will admit that is because I am usually in F/C or in E+ on United or Lufthansa, so it's not an issue)

What works for you may not work for others - as Salmoneus pointed out, noise cancelling headphones do not solve all problems. I pointed out that they do not cancel electronic noises all the time.

I know that you may have been trying to be helpful, but please don't bother to try and tell me how/when to ask for assistance. I manage just fine flying almost every week. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, and if you were just trying to be helpful, but one can't always understand the true intent of posts here.
